Thanks for the tips, I have a tip for this community as well.
I've seen a fair bit of hating on this forum, mainly about SC2. It's sad because the SC2 community on TL really likes COH, and it surprised me that some people here are so toxic about it.
So, going back to my tip. Do not hate on other communities, and games that are in the esports world. Because the truth is, we are all on the same boat, and if one succeeds, the other also gains something positive from it.

Very nice article, I really like entire layout with "credits" and "Further Reading" too. CoH2.org's gonna be great!

I just want to leave old GR-Expert Suprise's article on this subject here too, I personally think it is spot-on. It gives a hint on why the Fighting Game community might be a success.

Before anyone starts saying "big tourney-prizes are where its at end of story", I'll just leave you with a turd MVGame

Some sadly always gotta hate on the bigger games. I dislike Starcraft strongly, but I think they have good enough casters and personalities to make the scene and community very interesting. :)

Liked this article a lot, I think many want to strengthen their favorite games presence and community, but feel that they themselves cant give or help a lot. This might be a good thing in encouraging people to do what they believe they can do but never really had the confidence to do within gaming!

It also provided a lot of information and was an all around interesting read, I'm glad you look towards the fighting communities, they are an example of what a niche genre and community can create if you put enough work into it. :)

I plan on rolling out many maps for coh2 when it arrives. I'm trained as an architect and have good design concepts. I'll be looking to take part in the coh2 community in at least this way. I have been playing a lot of coh these days and am looking forward to joining the coh community in a constructive way.

Thank you! I have found my new love of the US faction recently and have been building new skills while waiting for COH2. I've been wanting to make maps, but don't want to make any because COH2 is so damn close. I know much of balance currently and will be playing a of COH2 to learn all the strats and mechanics so I can make sweet maps. And I don't care too much for symmetry....

....Maybe a little symmetry...

Quite a nice read.

One thing I find that is related to this is a portion of the audience in my own stream and others, that watch a fair bit of CoH, yet admit to not playing much of themselves. I think it does go to show CoH can be such an entertainning game to watch.

I think I am like this with sc2 sometimes. I'll occasionally watch some commentated games on twitchtv, despite me not having any idea wtf is going on I don't mind watching games here and there purely because its fun to view.

I've been having an urge to build CoH-maps, but see no point in it as CoH2 is just around the corner, so I'm hoping I have the time when it becomes possible to make maps for CoH2 ;)

My mapping career started with C&C1, Westwood stole some of my maps for a Red Alert expansion, I've been playing around with Duke Nukem maps and released a few popular Quake 2+3 DM, CTF and Rocket Arena maps.
Then I started my programming career, but I think I want to return to mapping now.. :)

Nice article, but at this point id rather wait and see if coh 2 is any good. Can't believe theyre going to ship this game in few months after playing alpha.

I really have to say that it was a great read. Thanks for that! When I started reading I tended to grab to the thought of "yeah, read this article and then just hit the crap out of it in the comments". I actually searched for some points to disagree on and start a discussion in here but there wasn't. Only thing I could add is, that the uncertainty of CoH2's quality is what is stopping a possible movement in the near future. This whole "THQ is bankrupt" made it all worse. Still: I really wanna help CoH on becoming more present in eSports. Of course it will never gain the size of SC2, LoL or Dota2 but it is still a game with a strong core community. CoH didn't reach its limit yet.

Really interesting article, especially for one like me who do not know that much about the e-sport concept. It would be lovely to hear a little from someone at relic/thq regarding coh2 and its place in the e-sport world.

I also liked this write-up.

One thing CoH2 creators does not have, it seems, is a vision about their game being on a big stage. Most important features are missing from the current version of the game. It is awfully hard to gain support on the e-sports scene without having proper equipment for the community.

In my eyes, CoH deserves to be in the list of the top e-sports games. SundayNightFights series show us how close and unexpected top tier games can be.

A good post. We really do appreciate the work you guys do to help get CoH into eSports status. I wish we had more time to provide support for CoH2 out of the gate, but I'm hopeful it's more of a case of 'when' than 'if'.

I read Bob's post several times before I realized he meant "when" CoH2 becomes and eSport rather than "if" CoH2 gets out of the gate :D
