axis still hogs and hoards all of the best AT, armor and infantry in-game they want it to stay that way so they can keep curb stomping the allies like its a piece of cake
This. Exactly this.
This is what people aren't getting. It's not just about the effectiveness of USF units. It's that USF is heavily limited in exotic units. Why the HECK is germany outperforming in airpower?.... of all the things. |
Sherman price is not fine, but you can all live in denial.
For AI Scott is way better, for AT jackson is way better. Sherman loses to P4 so what is the point of Sherman? It's a bit less vulnerable than the others I mentioned but not by much. German AT still has guaranteed penetration on its frontal armor (or extremely high penetration chance) and so we are talking about it being able to take a couple more hits is all. Scott has better smoke too so in some ways it's more survivable.
EDIT: I will say this. As a FIRST tank only it is useful because it is more versatile - but there's little point to getting additional stock shermans once you've started building up your armored force. |
Lmfao the rage on that guy. Calm down bro...
It's the same ole crap though. every time. Another debate about "sherman jumbo armor was "x" thickness and a long 75mm could penetrate it at "y" distance so it shouldn't even be in the game". Or "pershing barely saw any action in the war so it shouldn't be in the game". and so on. I get so sick of it, because any facts about all the ridiculous crap that relic put into German faction is just brushed aside. stop debating if the pershing made in difference in the war - the debate is why does germany have all this powerful content and USF does not.
Relic designed the game to make Germany exotic and Allies conventional. What ended up happeneing is the way they did it means Germany dominates the late game. People also say 4v4 balance will never exist - well ya sure while axis gets all the late game/team game designed commanders. USF just simply doesn't have the content to contend with Germany late game. It's not whether or not that content is balanced, it just isn't there.

HOLY CRAP THE IGNORANCE OF GERMAN FANBOIS
There were ONLY 44 OSTWINDS ever built.
ONLY 91 ELEPHANTs ever built
ONLY 88 JAGDTIGERs ever built.
ONLY 19 STURMTIGERs ever built.
STG44 infarred scopes were extremely rare.
ALL OF THESE AFVs/TECHNOLOGY mentioned had generally horrible service records. Elepehant and Jagd broke down all the time and were usually abandoned without ever even fighting. A handful of those TDs knocked out a few tanks and that was it.
German airpower on the western front was NON existant yet "Whermacht" has the most airpower in the game.
Sherman Jumbo saw QUITE BIT of service and had rather heavy armor capable of bouncing 75mm and even the occasional 88 (as reported).
IT DOES NOT MATTER. AT ALL. WHAT HAPPENED IN 1944-45. RELIC CHOSE TO DESIGN THIS GAME REGARDLESS OF THOSE UNIT PERFORMANCE/QUANTITY.
IF STURMTIGER/ELEPHANT/OSTWIND/JAGDTIGER CAN MAKE IT. SHERMAN JUMBO CAN DEFINATLEY MAKE IT and SO CAN PERSHING. |
I get so sick of all the L2P posts. Forums are so full of trolls.
USF isn't just L2P issue - the faction sucks. There's like 3-4 units and few commanders that aren't completely broken. And there are massive holes in the tech - no heavy tanks, no rocket artillery, very little air power, no stock heavy infantry, and the darned support weapons are tech-split.
I know how to play, it's when I deviate from the extremely narrow and micro-intensive that I start to lose. There's just no room to branch out with the USF and the competitive element that there is is really bland.
The other thing too, most stuff the USF has just "doesn't quite work" - Capt "On ME" ability - only breaks suppression for the units around the capt but not the capt himself - what? Pack howitzer vet 2 barrage of 3 lousy shells changes to HEAT shells - but only for the barrage - what? Rear echelons have grenade launcher while inside fighting postion, but cant' have it outside, no other unit can fire grenade launcher in fighting position - what? Every time you heal you need to select the extremely vulnerable ambulence and heal - other factions don't have to do a thing. Why?
There's so many niche units, niche abilities, and so much micro. What if at the same moment that you're stunning/engine shotting a stug with you Stuart you also need to be clicking heal for your ambulence? It gets old quick. Why is USF so user-unfriendly.
Besides, nearly everyone's arguments about what is effective in the USF are mostly doctrinal - 1919s, paras, P47, easy 8 etc..
If you cant understand that USF isn't just a L2P you should Learn to Discuss. |
Since my thread about USF being the worst faction got closed due to some mudslinging I'd like to bring up a few more points.
German Air Superiority.
I really struggle with this. In no way did axis ever need to have so many different stuka attacks added again and again and it culminated in the Close Air Support commander. Relic released this commander while they were working on WFA and knew full well that USF would be in the game as represented in 1944-45. A TIME WHEN GERMAN AIRPOWER WAS NON-EXISTANT except for air vs air. Even on the eastern front their airpower was diminishing. So from neither a history nor a game balance perspective should this have ever been developed.
USF Artillery Options.
USF desperately needs powerful artillery in the game. they are the ONLY faction that does not have stock long range artillery. I find this disturbing both for game balance and from historical perspective. USF had the best artillery in WW2 (Soviets may have massed the most in some battles) but USF artillery was the most modern in terms of ballistics calulators, communication, and motorization/mechanization. Relic FOOLISHLY choose to represent this power through redundant and often ineffective off map abilities. Where is buildable 105mm? Where is stock long range artillery? Calliope? ... so irritiating.
Combined arms.
USF doctrine stressed more than any other the use of combined arms and fire and maneuver (all forces in ww2 did) but USF was one of the better at doing this. Better than the germans largely due to the fact that late in the war it was hard for germans to always use combined arms due to a lack to vehicles. USF always had plenty of infantry/vehicles to send into the fray. Better training over all than soviet. and better manpower than british. I have a problem with the way the units are balanced that USF revolves around rifleman/jackson/paratrooper. Everything else is niche or just sucks. |
With the latest patch I think USF is finally broken. On all fronts. For a while there it could be said USF was atleast great in 1v1. Now its just awful in all modes. I think the tech changes really highlighted some major issues with USF. THe faction design is so narrow that anytime major things are changed like this it is bound to hamper the gameplay.
USF lacks any sort of heavy tank and stock heavy/rocket artillery is non existent. Opening options are pitiful. I think the faction had some major design issues on release, never had any content adds and is now not only BLAND but BARELY COMPETITIVE either.
Plea to Relic to REALLY dig into the issues with USF, and to release so desperately needed new content. Myself and many others have made numerous posts about basic, important, changes that could easily be implemented and it has gone almost entirely ignored. Not to mention all the more extravagant and complex posts that goes with out saying are ignored.
USF is bad shape right now. |
With the increased tech cost of Major the M4 Sherman feels really over priced. By the time it hits the field now German will have well established and possibly even vetted AT. Before it was possible to "rush" Sherman and get one out early enough to start picking away at AT. By the time it arrives there are layers of German AT - not just 1 or 2 schreck squads.
Now I know the timing comparisons will be tossed around with Panzer 4, but you really have to remember that German AT is far superior to allied AT and especially USF AT options. Sherman was much more viable before because it could hit the field early enough to get ahead of some of that. Now there is little reason to get it over the Scott/EZ8/Jackson for the various roles it performs. Better to get a Jackson/M8 and or EZ8 combo than multiple 75m Shermans.
I suggest a cost decrease to 90FU. |

THe only issue I hae is that USF needs a more solid counter to MG42 early on.
As far as the MG42 itslef I say leave it as is. |
