Thanks for sharing, especially the Hungarian site seems pretty user friendly and up to date. Though some things are better left unknown. "Long range" rifle G43 actually does around 1.5 times the dps of MG42 lmg at short range and the latter does close to three times the dps of the former at far range. So in relation to the base weapon the "long range" rifle actually drastically improves short range firepower, while the machine gun increases the long range firepower. It makes you wonder why no one at Relic thought of changing the art assets of two weapons.
I'm not sure what you mean, the Light Machine Guns always * geared toward long range, and the G43 was always a semi-automatic close-mid-range powerhouse.
*Excluding a short time after the game's release. |
Put Shock Troops in Armored Assault Tactics, because their body armor fits the theme. |
Now that we have a manual reload on all HMG's and the Maxim is still the worst gun, is there any chance the forced reload could be removed from the ability? If this proves too powerful, a shorter firing delay could be added, or the ability could be placed back at Veterancy 1. |
Let other factions steal or equip SVTs from Soviet Airborne.
I don't know if it's actually possible though, can non-Soviet units equip SVTs?
They'd need to give SVT animations to every squad in every faction, and in some cases (USF Riflemen) SVT's are actually a downgrade from their default weapon. |
Aren't Obersoldaten just supposed to be veteran infantry? The generic Obersoldat rank means 6+ months of service. I suppose it makes sense that they don't really fit in a post-Bagration Wehrmacht, I think they're meant to represent the more veteran Volksgrenadier divisions like the 12th.
As far as I know yes, they're just supposed to be veterans. This is supported by their base stats with MG 34 being very similar to Vet 3 LMG Grenadiers.
In-game Obersoldaten are implied to be Waffen-SS, like Panzergrenadiers they wear SS camouflage. Initially they were referred to as "Honor Guards" but this was cut very late, which is why neither Obersoldaten nor the Announcer refer to themselves by any title.
The name can rarely be heard in idle dialog. If idle Volksgrenadiers are near Obersoldaten they'll occasionally say something like "Stay away from those Honor Guard guys, they are fanatical, crazy." |
I think OKW should get the StuG Commander because there are vocalizations available for OKW StuG, but it could work as an alternative to the Puma. |
I'd say CoH2 is actually slightly more authentic than CoH1 was. CoH1 had a lot of very gamey oddities like 2 man Pioneer squads, Volksgrenadiers (an old man leading teenagers into battle) being superior to Riflemen, Grenadiers being par to BAR Riflemen (You're tellin' me 4 bolt action rifles is equal to 3 BAR's and 3 M1 Garands??), or the Knights Cross Holders being a Wehraboo's wet dream.
I just remembered another one, Stormtroopers had lower DPS than Volksgrenadiers but if you gave them double 2x StG upgrade (it was a hefty cost) they had the highest DPS of any unit in the game! Using them was extremely satisfying, but they were so difficult to attain I felt I needed to plan my strategy around them existing.
Also some squad leaders had a unique gun, for USF it was an M1 Carbine (paratrooper model) on Riflemen and for Wehrmacht (Volksgrenadiers, Grenadiers, and Stormtroopers iirc) it was an StG that actually had copy-pasted Kar 98 stats with a larger magazine. This meant you you bought the 2x StG upgrade, visually the Stromtroopers had 3 StG's, but one of them was just a Kar 98 in disguise. You had to spent another 75 munitions for 1 more StG and to authorize the third guy to switch to full-auto! |
I don't think Obersoldaten have ever existed
In COH1 no, but I think of Obersoldaten as the Knights Cross Holders equivalent, since they are both late-game Super Germans. |

I think CoH2's designs for Pioneers, Volksgrenadiers, Grenadiers, Riflemen, and even Obersoldaten are a lot more authentic. Still far from a milsim, but definitely more believable. The most unbelievable thing about Obersoldaten is that they still exist after Operation Bagration! |
The Guards Airborne need to be more like Paratroopers, give them higher damage resistance and make their PPSh considerably stronger, but with a munitions cost.
Similarly, Assault Guards could use a target size reduction, they're actually the easiest to Guard's Squad to hit since they have full target size.
In order to better balance the power of the SVT Crate Drop, since the PPSh are not very strong on Penals when they arrive, I was thinking reduce SVT from 4 to 3, reduce cost accordingly, and have it 1CP earlier. That would help alleviate the apparent OP-ness on Conscripts (which i disagree is an issue, though it is a decent upgrade), but make it more appealing for Penals or Combat Engineers (who can use it with a flamethrower). With this, revert the nerf to Conscripts last patch. |
