Napalm, i want to thank you for your post. It actualy moved me, gave me some hope and also a better idea of what they have to deal with at Relic. You are a lucky bastard to have spent some time with them ! I will try to be more considerate in my upcoming posts (I'm not always). Cinthia is playing the game ? Great ! I wish my wife did too. Then again, maybe not ... Anyway thank you for your insights.
Russians are almost balanced. It's sad that the only diversity they can have comes from the commanders. Americans is an other story, no diversity and you have to go for a quick win or you are almost doomed ( need soviets friends in 4 vs 4 ). I have many wins with both factions, but you have to realize that this is hard. I almost never played the axis (I don't care for the time it's taking to find a match, and it's no challenge=easy mode ), and I can still win with random mates and one or even two CPUs in the team. It's no wonder in 4 vs 4 that the allied queue is almost always empty ... Many prefer the easy mode (right WJ ?). I don't. But I would really appreciate a little less challenge and too have a chance to win even in a long match ...
Maybe I have it wrong. Where are you based out of? Maybe post your player card/steam page so I can see?
If I have it wrong, I'd like to apologise.
No offense taken. I'm still away from home and replying with an iPad. Don't have my steam number. If it's relevant, I will post my non impressive card when I'll get back home and back on the battlefield. Ho, and it's no surprise, I live in Switzerland ...
Quite frankly I don't get the feeling that Relic is close to its players base. Maybe they are listening to a few of them, mainly eSports guys, doing one on one. This is alright, but they should also be listening to team players (4vs4). Look at their forum ! It's not really alive. And be careful what you post over there (the gestapo is watching and is very sensitive about what you are saying or could be implying or even might be thinking when you are posting).
I realize that this is not a nice post from me, I am tired ... I can do nice post, even take time to make them ...
.
But right now I would like Relic to Also consider 4vs4 : (new) balanced maps (and/or more vetoes) or the returns of old time favorites (route n13, montargis ...), random starting locations for new challenges, soviets are almost balanced but the only diversity they can get is from the commanders, US army is good at the start of a game, but you are forced to do the same thing over and over again (no diversity) and go for a quick win or you are most certainly doom (no late game units, specially hard in 4vs4). Pershing, Calliope, Rangers ...
I was looking at the most played games on the Internet. Most of them are team based. Is this not worth something ? From a commercial point of view, would you not rather have 8 players (and game licenses) during every match than just 2 ? It's a bit silly as an argument, but I make it anyway. With the current state of the game, it's no wonder that the allied queue in 4vs4 is almost empty. I am sure axis players would enjoy shorter waiting time and a good challenge, even if the matchs should last longer. And if it was more balanced I would also play on the axis side (for now in 4vs4) and used the war spoils I am guetting. But right now, playing axis in 4vs4 is just unfair. I don't have fun stomping allied players considering that I am not an experienced axis player.
Some of you have asked why I keep coming back on the allied side. For the challenge. But too often, I feel like a "faire Valoir", some kind of a punching ball to make axis players happy. This can only last for so long. Americans needs to get reworked, and diversity added, even if it's through new commanders (yes I will buy them to support Relic even if I think that it's not the good way to balance the game. Commanders should be icing on the cake, not the cake itself). And I have to admit that there are not that many good games around. I've been playing COH since the first game and all of its iterations. COHO is the one I missed most. Yes it was not balanced, and probably never would have. But the fun factor was high, it was addictive, and both sides could do crazy strategies and had OP units.
Despite the sour tone of this post, I think that Relic will improved the game. Maybe it will be with the release of Ardennes Assaul and a new patch. I sure hope it ... Just don't take too long.
Hmmm my 'memory trip lane' of you, is not of you being helpful. I remember you losing it because things weren't going so well, and you proceeding to wire me into my base and mortaring my troops (whilst throwing insults at me), because I lost a squad of rifles to kubel/truck push and sturm pio's.
Have you turned over a new leaf?
The types of comportements you describe here are TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE ! And I would be enraged if I saw somebody do it to me. The game is so challenging that you definitely don't need things like that ! I don't remember you, so I will take this as an error on the person. I can surrender if the allies don't gain and hold their grounds ... But's that's about it. I can also enjoy defeat, if the fighting was good on both sides. Sometimes I even gratify my team with a moral victory despite the fact that we loosed.
oh I've run into some people like that, is that who the "nice guy" is? I haven't been wired into my base in coh2 yet.
Me neither, but it had happened to me a couple of times on the Steelpack map in COHO. At least it was from the axis players. Then to the nice guy part, WJ said nice, not a saint ! So I have not done this heresie, but it happens sometimes in the heat of the action that I can say things like 'don't camp', move forward, don't stop or 'Are you done or feeling better' after 36 clicks on the map. But then again, who does not from time to time. Specially after a few games being automatch with teammates that can be good but dont know the terrain enough or lack quick adjustments necessary for good team play.
Playing axis you can have a player or a CPU scoring 3200 points and you 28000 and still win. The same type of scenario is most of the time certain death if it happens on the allied side.
My team AND myself were highly ranked too ( top 20 on allied side 4vs4. Almost never played axis ). COHO A BALANCED GAME ? No Way ! But WITH the dynamic doctrines, the custom units, commander customization feature, AND versatility for all factions ... almost everything was possible. Not in COH2. Versatility you find mainly on axis side, while you get vanilla AND limited basic units on allied teams, so you have to take great care in choosing amongst many useless commanders, the one that can compensate for the lack of real good starting unit. On the axis side, commanders are just icing on the cake.
Wow, I have started this tread so that new players in team automatch would not get overwhelmed and keeps coming back. Now we're also on a memory lane trip ... COHO. So many good memories ... And frustrating ones too. Gee, I wanted to spend more real cash to support Relic, but the economic model was broken ... There was not anything to buy ! Not even crazy skins, map pack or new commanders slots ... One regret (the main one is that the game is gone), i never really had the time to play on the axis side. In automatch, there were also more axis players, so longer waiting time to find a match ... But not as long as today on COH2.
Anyway, I was on the move, replying from airports yesterday. I wrote something that is not true at all, allies do have good starting units in COH2. It's the lack of late game good ones that are commander related (except (Early game) maybe for the mechanized little mg, but it got pushed back to render it useles ....).
Personally I am not to fond of big tanks (slow, two much manpower, etc.), Pershing should be available for diversity. But I would also (and prefer) the comeback of the Rangers ! Charge !
CoHO was never going to be balanced, but as Swiss said, it didn't really need to be. The variables were so diverse you could make all sorts of crazy strategies, and allies had all sorts of mad OP units too (assault jeep anyone?).
I loved CoHO, I was ranked higher there (Top 100 in team games) than I ever was in vCoH and CoH2 and never got bored.
I know the purists hated it, but if you took it on face value it was sheer fun.
I could not agree more. Think about that: he is right, there were OP allied units !!! Not just axis ones ! ...it just sound like science-fiction today.
As someone who played a bunch of teamgames in COHO and was fairly high rank in coh1, I'll just say the balance in COHO was HUGELY in favor of axis in all modes...even more so than COH2. If you had fun and interesting games there, it was because you played against people who couldn't figure out what parts of the game were completely and utterly broken (using broken axis hero units to immediately push allies off map, then using blitz flares to win every single engagement for the rest of the game, for insEtance)

I'm puzzled that we still don't have Montargis or Route 113 in 4v4 These were undoubtedly the favourites in CoHO
Yesssssss !
Even Refinery or Steelpack ! Wait, maybe not Steelpack, OKW Stukas' could one shot kill and destroy an entire enemy base. And elephants ... So definitly no Steelpack for now.
that beiing said, come on Relic, add additionnel vetoes in 4 vs 4. Its really Easy to do, AND its a very concrete action to balance a little bit more in 4 vs 4.
if fixing 4v4 will break 1v1, i would like Relic to not touch 4v4. If you wanna play balanced, competitive match, you should leave 4v4 and go for 1v1 or 2v2. However, some may just want to have fun, then they might play 4v4.
First of all, bro, you should check yourself whether you want simple daily fun or you want competitive hard core fun. Then play the game in a suitable mode(1v1 or 4v4). That's the way I go for a match.
I have so many memories of épic battles IN COHO, WITH HUGE COMEBACKS and reversals ... You rarely see them IN COH2 (4vs4). Well you do see them sometimes, but the comeback is generally made by the axis.
Has to why i keep plaiying for now, there is simply no other RTS of that quality around. Some people play diablo or solitaire, i prefer a challenge (i am more a Dark Souls kind of guy than a diablo type game) and i love teamwork, i can enjoy 1 vs 1 from Time to Time, but large maps and large amont of variables is more satisfying to me and to many of my friends.
I find it annoying That we dont have at least ont more veto map in 4 vs 4. You are forced to play on axis advantage maps ... And WITH the lost orders... What a nightmare.
