It's probably easier to try to make team game maps actually more balanced. Lots of team game maps are just bad from a balance perspective. |
The 'maphack capability' of this unit's historical performance has been greatly exaggerated and I don't mean the minimap icon exploit. It gave a blatantly obvious tell that you've been detected and the spotlight has bright ray paths to indicate its presence. If you sit around in that range knowing all that, you deserved to be bombed by Axis arty. It's on par to leaving scout planes still up for their full duration and then wondering why you got shelled.
Maphacks are usefull for way more than just bombing. It allows you to easily spot and prepare for flanks, shows you if the enemy is placing mines, see which way his AT guns are turned etc. |

I've been playing 1v1 OKW a fair bit recently and I can't say that I think the HMG34 needs a buff. It has a big arch and suppresses very well. It doesn't have the same Oomph as the MG42, but with OKW I don't find myself lacking in Oomph anyway with Double Obers being fairly easy to acquire, its the crowd control that I am looking for. |
Also, "blobbing" shouldn't be frown upon so much by the community.
It's like getting cannon(SC2)/tower (WC3/AoE2) and blaming the game.
Indeed. Sometimes blobbing is just the right tactic to use. If the opponet is spread out in a defensive posture, attacking spread out will just lead to a failed assault because he will be in cover and you will not be. Blobbing one point in the line can break trough it however, which then forces the opponent to get his units out of their dug in positions.
The game also has plenty of anti blobbing tools to counter players who do nothing but blob, so if you lose to it it's really on you. |
I’ve gotten to 74 USF in 1s by just blobbing 3 rifles, a ranger, a Cpt, a Rear Echelon and a Major, all with BARs, into the enemy cutoff/retreat path and deleting everything. The strat works perfectly, especially with cover to cover and M4 into CalliOP.
The strat also works for every other army out there. If you manage to bring 60 supply worth of heavily upgraded infantry into an enemies cut-off and retreat path, you are going to wipe whatever tries to run the gauntlet. If there are 4 upgraded Panzerfussies, an Obersquad, and a sturmpio on your retreat path, you are going to lose every unit on retreat too... |

The Vickers in this scenario is both self-spotting and has good suppression/damage. A IAP MG34 still cannot self-spot any further than normal (not counting the vet V here, that's unrealistic to get it) AND you must also pre-load the gun to be effective. Which means you need a spotter between the MG and the squads coming somehow. Pressing IAP while they're in range is a frequent death sentence for the crew.
Let's not forget that the Vickers only gets the bonus in buildings (meaning either predictable positioning or MP investment in trenches by Tommies, more damage from indirect, and high vulnerability to getting 1-shot via building collapse), and the MG34 gets the ability everywhere. |
Because people like them are ruining the game experience for people trying to play the game properly. And the most sad thing is that this retarded gameplay gets you to rank 5 USF in 2v2. Something should have done about this zero IQ blobbing 7 years ago.
You just said that you won the game... so evidently the strat doesn't in fact work and anti blobbing tools are working fine. |

I'd point out that is like saying that the M1 57mm is the best AT gun in the game if you spend 30 muni on it every time you want it to shoot. Or the Maxim is a great MG if you have Sustained Fire constantly active. No one would seriously argue the maxim is a good MG, practically only remains used much due to OKW inf blobs.
I have seen plenty of people argue that the USF at gun is very good due to its ability. |

So you're comparing an active ability that requires premptive use to a vickers passive one like 55 range and 50 sight in buildings? Doesn't seem to fair.
Yes, I am. It's asymetrical balance that works fine in my opinion. A vetted up vickers becomes more difficult to deal with, AP rounds on axis MGs turns them into temporary beast mode MGs. |

This is a cop out answer. MG damage matters when green cover actually decides to work and stops suppression. You cannot dislodge units from safety if you don't deal damage. The vickers gets bonus suppression with vet to cover some of its issues, why not give the MG34 bonus damage with vet.
It has that already in the form of incendiary rounds. |
