Well I've been having relatively good success on open maps with the Kubel vs Soviets, but any map with any kind of important close-quarters areas i simply lose. EVERYTHING we have in close quarters simply SUCKS in the mid game.
I was owning a Soviet player on Arnhem Checkpoint earlier, great map control thanks to the kubel and sturm harass in the early game - but he just wittled me down on points in the end because its impossible to hold the VP's that require short range units to hold. Arnhem, La Gleize, Angoville - any where there's an important position to take/hold, short range shines. WTF are we supposed to do when our Sturms are so costly to reinforce, so fragile and often carrying a mine-sweeper further decreasing their usefulness. Shock troops come so early and melt Volks / Fusiliers / Sturms. Fusiliers are our only decent staple unit, meaning no MG suppression. How can we constantly rely on 2vs1 scenarios (flank sturm + volk engagements) when our units are more costly and fewer?
Has anyone tried the STG44 upgrade on Obers, is it any good? Do they come too late regardless? |
Can't see your playercard, so I have no idea what level opponents you're facing. If you're new to OKW I'd just remind you that your initial combat power is pretty limited, especially against Soviets or USF. They can honestly cover the whole map early. You need to play with focus. A kubel and sturmpios together can make a great harassing combo, especially if your volks are focusing on holding something critical (probably fuel). Also, remember that with volks you will almost always need a numbers advantage and good micro.
If you survive the early game on even footing when it comes to tech and resources you'll probably be in a good spot later.
If that doesn't help go watch some replays.
Nice tips, thanks. My playercard should be eblow my AVI there. I've been watching plenty of replays. Mostly struggling vs Sovs/UK. VS UKF I've been going very volk heavy and playing almost like USF vs OST. Fighting hard for early map control and multi harass/pushing.
I've been doing alright with them but I have a relatively unorthodox build.
Dane casted a game recently vs alcoholic that kind of shows what I do. Open with double sturmpio, follow up with a Kubel and then either a volksgrenadier or a raketenwerfer. (I get both, bit which one I buy first depends.). Then I get mechanized as my first truck and get a flak halftrack. Then I get a puma and a medic truck for ISG/Flashlight HT. I build some more folks or mg34's in between fack ht and other stuff.
The one thing I struggle with is early AT nades since they're a free Kubel kill more or less so you gotta play very conservatively with it.
I like the idea of opening Kubel but vs UKF it gets countered by the unit its supposed to counter (sniper) and is pretty useless in terms of suppressing IS behind any kind of cover before it takes too much damage.
I assume this build is VS Soviets? If so i can see how that could be strong. Maybe ill start playing with Kubel some more vs Sovs.

Literally getting face rolled by every single faction right now. Especially Soviets and UK.
Anyone discovered any new playstyles/strategies for beating any/all factions? |
Another great example of UKF's stupidity in action. All you need to do is keep your snipers alive long enough for a centaur and you pretty much win. A completely dominated UKF player all game but it doesn't matter. The nerf bat can't come sooner. |
"The biggest problem with emplacements is that they are immobile."
Thanks COH2.org forums, I needed that laugh.
You just can't make it up. |
3 Raketens by 11 minute mark? Thats too much manpower being tied up in useless weapons IMO.
Most Brits will rush a centaur - just have 1 or 2 Schrekvolks and/or 1 Raketen on the field, and make sure you have a Jagdpanzer out in time. The scariest thing about the Centaur is if you are unprepared. Being prepared and nullifying it quickly will often mean GG. It usually hits around 11-12 minute mark depending on how much the Brit player skimped on fuel units. |
Yes, excellent tournament and really made me feel good about the COH2 community, even if for a few hours!
AMI is a great caster, same again next year? |
Brits are completely unplayable vs OKW now. Unless your opponent is terrible.
- Emplacements are completely useless now. The 400 manpower 'mortar' and Bofors structure is countered by 1 ISGun.
- WASP is a completely pointless upgrade. It barely tickles enemy units and is only good to scare your opponent out of structures for the 30 second window this unit is useful. The vickers does more damage, is more accurate and more effective at everything. WASP cannot kill anything. It gives you 0 leverage in the early game, which was the only springboard Brits had to actually get anything done in the mid.
- Snipers, while useful, are also countered by the mighty ISGun - just bombard the general location the shot came from and you'll have a high chance of hitting it. You will at least completely scare the sniper out of the general area because those SNIPERGuns are deadly.
- If OKW manages to secure a defensive position with these guns you have no way of pushing until T3 or until you can requisition the 4CP 500Manpower commandos, which, you guessed it, also lose to ISGuns if one lands within a 100m radius of them. Gee i wonder why there's so many OKW players on ladder right now?
- Brace is a completely redundant ability for a redundant set of structures. I mean really, what is the point in it? To delay the inevitable and not make us feel completely helpless while observing its slow destruction?
- You are not a defensive faction vs OKW, you are a hopeless pushing faction that has no way to punish defensive positions until T3.
- Now that the smoke has settled, (you know, like a week after Brits release) players actually know how to play against Brits (turns out if you give it some time, people manage to find counters) - and due to Relics absolutely window-lickingingly retarded, knee jerkingly derp Balance team, its been made 100x easier regardless. Is anyone even playing Brits in the tournament?
I guess I'm supposed to go and buy Vanguard now, to have a chance to win or something? After all i just bought Rifle company, which seemed like the only way to win with USF too. Thank you Relic, instead of trying to balance your bank account, try balancing the game first.
P.S I feel sorry for anyone playing for real money in COH2. It's a disaster and always will be.

So which Allied fanboy are you? This is obviously an alternate account.
Have you tried dealing with Axis heavy armor with USF? A quick look at your player card suggests not. |
So more MP added to tech costs, comet nerfed and still no changes to tommies or teching? Also a nerf to the Wasp which was pretty much your only crutch to get you through the early game.
The only change to the brit sniper was letting him fire standing, so presumably he will still aim his rifle like an OAP and be hopeless against the wehr snipers predator camo.
Bren camo detection was nice but I'm willing to bet the 222 will benefit from this a lot more.
Relic pls, I just want brits to be viable in 1's.
Exactly my thoughts.
My GOD Relic, why have you always, always, ALWAYS been so absolutely braindead when it comes to balancing? It's the bane of all your titles. Learn to do your damn job or at least try playing your own game for a week first. |
