Just wanted to chime in that this feature was added to CoH2's predecessor, Dawn of War 2.
It's about time it was added to CoH2 as it's a standard feature of RTS games now.
Part of the reason why CoH2 isn't enjoyable is a friend and I tend to use the WASD control scheme for RTS games, and had great success with it in DoW2. |
The zoom level of CoH1 and 2 are exactly the same.
I have done a side by side comparison, even overlaying two images on top of each other on maps ported from CoH1 to 2.
What's actually changed is that a lot of things in the game have longer ranges, such as all the tanks and AT guns. This means stuff tends to happen across multiple screen lengths of range more often.
I think it's a problem, but the solution is more complex than to just zoom out. |
It's likely there were some other art asset related fixes bundled in that they didn't bother to list. |
Saw Stephennjf actually beat someone who had two of these last night. Of course, his infantry preservation skills won the day anyway. It was still sad seeing that many Shermans die.
Almost like this was a realistic game where tanks die as soon as they get a single penetrating hit. |
It's literally been only a few hours since the official public release.
I'm not someone who will cut Relic any slack. But you can't really talk at all about balance with having only hours of experience with the game. That's the reality of it. |
They added some fun new stuff, and I think I like the ideas behind the progression system more than before.
Basically, the progression system is now random loot drops at the end of a match. I know that sounds horrible, but it does away with the idiotic achievements and requirements for things like some useful Bulletins.
I always hate systems that involve grinding weird objectives, and even if bulletins aren't that useful, they still do add something in terms of gameplay.
Oh and all the old stuff you now just get free if you owned CoH2 prior to the patch.
Another cool and fun thing they added were Victory Strikes, which are a silly little celebration/humiliation element. Basically, every player has a type of victory strike they choose for their profile. Once a match ends, the winners' victory strikes are used to blow up any remaining units and base.
Haven't actually played a match yet, waiting on my old group of players to do some team games.
Anyone know if they finally allowed for borderless windowed mode, or added hotkey reconfiguration yet. These were the biggest issues that I had. A friend and I both have used the WASD style control scheme with RTS games for a long time now, going back to DoW2. It may seem odd, but it has some nice advantages in terms of micro compared to using the mouse to scroll. I was incredibly disappointed by Relic for ignoring this feature from DoW2. |
First pic is of the Luchs, which is a recon tank, similar to the T-70, but faster.
The Sherman 76 had a much bigger turret, and it's actually a turret that was intended for use for an early experimental model Pershing.
I wonder if we'll get Easy 8s showing up in the game. |
Get infantry in front of the tiger to spot those T-34s. |
Yes, this patch was only for the battle server alpha test. |
Use rifle grenades to either soften up and disrupt an enemy unit that has high health. Or, if you see a unit that is at 1/2 health or lower, a rifle grenade from out of line of sight can blow up most of a squad, or even kill it outright if they're bunched together.
The trick is that a rifle grenade used when a unit is at high health will seem to do nothing, but the effect is there once you get to fighting. But any grenade on a unit with near 1/2 health or lower will tend to be annihilated. |
