You're trying to say that not knowing your opponents 'strength' before the game is what turns people away?
For real?
DNK About people, but it definitely is a major turn off for me in COH2.
Beating a player, closely losing to a player or giving someone hard time in the game is closely related to the player I am playing vs.
Did I play good game or not? idnk
If I do not know who I am playing vs, most of the excitement is gone for me.
Its like some people check the score to see who won football game, I try everything in my power not to find out the score if I plan to watch it later.
If I do find out, I don't watch it. End of story
There is no point |
I could be wrong, but I don't recall any allegations of P2W when opposing fronts and tales of valour came out with additional multiplayer units and factions with a price tag. In fact when I hear about how great vCoH was in comparison to its successor the years after these expansions were released are included in it's golden years. Is it just that these cost more and came in a bundle with single player content that makes them acceptable?
Also, the tribalbob quotes are a little out of place since he was removed when Sega acquired Relic. The change in business strategy was most likely Segas decision, in order to recoup their investment into Relics bailout. Please stop blaming Relic for things most likely out of their control.
Here is a hint; Relic and Sega are one and the same, an company. Company isn't a person with feelings and free choice when it comes to decisions.
Company always does things with the aim of making profit. That is the sole purpose of company.
Was it Sega or Relic who made decisions it really makes no difference, the only thing that matters is the end product and what I feel about it.
Stop referring to Relic as it is a entity with feelings, compassion and moral values. It makes me sick |
I can't even count how many nerfs this commander got, but I can't think of a single other who got as many
Its relic way of saying "yes, we didn't intended to add tank traps THAT much"
But the truth is, this is a 'community commander' made by players who went to Vancouver, not relic, so the bright community minds who decided to put early game only stuff are to blame as well.
I find it ironic that commander made by community turns out to be most useless one in game, NKVD rifle doctrine at least have decent offmaps.
Not sure should I cry or laugh....
I can't even count how many nerfs this commander got .... blah blah blah ............... .... ................................I find it ironic that commander made by community turns out to be most useless one in game.

I wouldn't mind Rzhew winter out of 2v2 as well and actually have proper 2v2 maps.
But I guess that's not gonna happen |
how is this constantly overlooked I have no idea. or maybe 1v1 is where the shizz is at. i know i have been harping on this but seriously, this thing is a major problem.
pathetically, the design decision for this game is asymmetry. germans have powerful tanks, soviets have more than capable assault guns. it would all be fine if everything followed the rule, but nope elefants shits on that and brings in more firepower than germans really need.
what really happens is the elefant, nullifies every single advantage that the soviets have in the anti tank department, good assault guns. coming with 400 frontal armour, 1280hp and 100range. its impregnable by all except the AT gun and su85. however, it shits on su85s so hard, its up to the humble AT gun to do something about it, which is at best, awful against it.
that insane frontal armour makes max pen values unreliable, with less than 50% to pen and that beefy hp forces AT guns to shoot for EXTREME extended periods of time and risk exposure to artillery fire, guaranteed. combo that with 100 range, its will be sited well behind lines, safe from almost everything maybe a stray arty fire or so.
soviets, lacking in AT tanks, cannot rely on flanking or shock and awe tactics like germans with their panzercats and blitzkreig that darts around faster than a cat who accidentally turned on the vacuum cleaner. so attacking its rear armour its ALMOST out of the question. 1 will have to be close to brain dead to expose its rear to assault guns and AT guns.
the is2 is an exception, its capable of flanking and killing an elefant, but it is not invulnerable to the german infantry that will be swarming the elefant, schrecks and pfaust will blow it up quite easy. or a panther to check it nice and good and is2 becomes more or less target practice.
still not convinced? here's the kick. you might argue or try to find an effective counter in the form of 152mm howitzer. but nope, the thing is, the elefant doctrine comes with anti arty abilities too. they have recon runs and that isnt enough? they get a bombing run that 1 shots howitzers. it doesnt take much imagination as to how to blow up a stationary equipment with this 2 abilities.
still arguing with guards and bombing runs? thats unreliable at best, no sane german player will leave elefants unprotected and swarm it with infantry and sneaking a guards squad through probably vetted grens and pgrens is pretty much suicide, not to mention staying stationary for the duration of buttoning.
but then again, this forums is too pro german, so i must prepare myself for the incoming onslaught on my psyche and something about my mother being fucked by a random guy on the net 5thousand miles away.
still better to let my views known than sit back and do nothing. let me know how badly u guys think of me. thanks.
Man I wish I could tell you something different, but unfortunately Relic has decided that they do now want to try and balance 4v4 games at all because its to hard.
They are hoping that balance issues will be lost in the clutter of players accusing each other of being noob, L2P, etc.
I guess you will just have to get used to it, sorry |
its fine, your Grenadiers are from Dr. Mengele unit.
Thats all |
Germans planes in this doc are half cost compared to their full versions, and i like strafe more than it's full version because you can pin squads that you want instantly, and it's harder to avoid. 37mm stuka is really weak, but for it's cost it might be usefull to kill Halftrucks and lighter vehicles.
No doubt about Soviet commander, all abilities are useful and good for all the game stages
Agree, I might add recon followed by bombing run is quite deadly as there isn't much time to get out of the way (mortars, maxims, etc especially vulnerable)
Tho I only experienced this in 4v4 game and units are lot more grouped then I would usually have in 1v1 or 2v2.
however I think it could prove to be quite useful |
Potential explanation:
Last year there was a huge fight between the data collectors and the gameplay designers about which direction to go with the automatching/lobby system. The data collectors said "look who plays the game and what they play." The dudes who like 1v1 and want to bear Sepha's children said "no, we need to encourage competitive play and it'll be better if people aren't team stacking their pub 4v4 games. We've got this cool ELO system all worked out."
And a compromise was reached, and like all good compromises, it pleased no one. People could play with friends in automatch, but there would be no lobbies or public games. And like most compromises, it ended up having questionable long-term results.
On the whole I personally feel it's a good system. If I get a good team together, and we have enough ELO points put together, we get pretty good opponents if any are available. But it limits the game modes, your ability to play the map YOU want, etc. Relic made a poor decision to not give the customer what they want, even if what the customer wants is, in fact, pretty stupid (annihilation, Scheldt) and doesn't give rise to good competitive games, etc.
Funny thing is when I pressed Noun/Relic about custom game lobby, their explanation was that people were complaining about teamstacking, smurfing and they wanted to avoid that.
Exact thing they achieved is teamstacking and smurfing en-mass without any way for a player to avoid that other than becoming teamstacker himself.
Hence those guys who were teamstacking and smurfing in VCOH are having a blast and enjoying themselves trolling unsuspecting (more or less) random noobs.
Guys who always tried to make the games even when they played 3v3's and 4v4's (like myself) have either given up and uninstalled their copy of COH2 or are still here playing 1v1's and 2v2's and bitching about core game design.
P.S. There is no reason to try to play competitive 1v1 for 4v4 player since everyone thinks they are excellent players. They cannot join the game with 7 good players and realize that they are infact pretty average.
Thats how you start playing 1v1 from team games. To improve your skill |
tank rush has more to do with lack of options to engage heavy armor than with fuel options.
I'll put it this way.
In COH you hard very capable and some specialized AT inf (Paratroopers, double shrecks, etc) tank traps, mines, capable at guns (combined with tank traps) etc.
In COH2 you really have to go for those tanks, especially if playing Soviets.
a. not many Effective AT options available
b. inf and at guns are much more vulnerable to call in abilities and tanks cannot be slowed down by tank traps, etc.
Thats why I think that your idea probably wouldn't really work. |
Those are maps I know a lot of people veto the shit out of.
I suspect Relic might watch that data. A bit surprised about Rzhev summer though, I thought people liked the campy/Vire River valley nature of that map. Elefant vs ISU fights are occasionally fun on it.
I hate that shit when playing 2v2, 3v3 meh |
