Are you talking about HTD being OP or something else? |
Also Barton, by posting in this public thread other people who might not necessarily have mentors can benefit from your pro tips.
*Edit* I'm serious, by the way. I for one would be interested in the advice you give others, and this is all for the benefit of the community anyway. But yes, this post is off-topic. |
+1, would read again. Do you have any other equally incisive critiques you could point me to? |
Great use of the Elefant. I think it was key in allowing your Panzer IV to roam around freely after retaking the mid. |
It may have been worth back-teching to Tier 1 at some point for Grenadiers instead of additional Panzergrenadiers, it's only like 120 MP for the building I believe. Against Tier 3 I find Panzerfausts to be indispensable.
Awesome to see the howitzer in a 1v1! It actually did quite well with 30 kills, certainly paying for itself, and dealing with some annoying Maxims and 120mms. I wasn't watching the Field Artillery Officer constantly, and it looked like you were low on munitions, but the smoke barrage could have been useful in the mid/late game against those Maxims to allow your Panzergrenadiers to charge in.
Also, those scout cars were so cost effective in the early game. They had around 15 kills each even before upgrading to deal with the T-70, and wiped a couple of Maxim squads entirely. Just considering reinforcement costs, each 80 MP unit took out at least 300 MP. |
I think the lack of Guards hurt the asII team. They had quite a few AT guns, but couldn't deal with flanking German armor in a number of situations.
The Germans did well in preserving their tanks, though it was too bad that the Pak 43 didn't see action. Maybe a slightly more forward position behind the church? |
I haven't mentored for quite a few years, so I think this will be fun. I'm Peter, 24 years old and from Arizona. I played vCoH a lot from launch to the release of OF, and not really at all after that, but CoH2 has kept my interest and I think it's moving in the right direction. I also wrote the multiplayer content in Prima's official CoH2 eGuide.
In the last few months I've been playing far more team games than 1v1s, but that's been changing recently.
Many of you seem to be pretty experienced players so we should have some interesting discussions.
Here's what we'll do:
1. I'll first watch several replays from each of you. Please post 3-5 replays in which you lost or barely won. I want to get a feel for how you play in a variety of situations.
2. You write up a short analysis of your play overall, strengths and weaknesses.
3. I will expand on what you've written based on your games. Also, I'll point out a few things I'd like you to specifically focus on.
4. You continue to post replays in which you struggled or about which you have tactical/strategic queries along with a self-analysis of your play and I'll comment on them.
This process will repeat until you have reached your desired level of play.
We can and very likely will also play games and watch replays together over Mumble (on an ad hoc basis), but as replay reviews can be done asynchronously, they can keep us moving forward regardless of scheduling. Add me on Steam (Golradaer from Arizona) and feel free to message me at any time. If you guys are interested in watching replays as a group, let me know and we can set it up -- I think this could be fun.
There are a lot of resources from CoH1 that are relevant, so I'll post up links to them over the next week as I search through my bookmarks. |
I agree with almost everything you say. I think the Elefant is fine as it is -- properly supported it becomes incredibly difficult to take out. I can see the Fortified Armor Commander's Elefant/Command Tank combination allowing a German player to stay in Tier 2 until 4 CPs, spending all of their fuel on call-ins.
I've really enjoyed using the Joint Operations Commander in team games. The Field Artillery Officer's Focused Barrage ability is just amazing. It gives German Mortars effectively double range (and the same for Howitzers/Panzerwerfers).
We ought to test out ambush camouflage more. I can see it being quite useful on winter maps because squads with the upgrade should be able to move through deep snow invisibly. I don't know about effectivness in 1v1s, but in larger games this can be a great way to bypass HMGs and sneak behind enemies. Rzhev Winter, Oka River, Moscow Winter, and City 17 Winter all have large areas full of deep snow. Also, late game when there are craters all over I imagine such a squad could advance invisibly across open ground. |
I beat it earlier without stalling, tried it yesterday to record it, got it on my second try.

Since this is the only fun TOW ive practiced it alot, so if you have any questions. Feel free to ask
Getting the vet 3 ZiS before the tank waves by using the barrage ability on infantry is a great idea -- I think this was key. It's too bad the Panzergrenadiers took so long to get veterancy themselves. |
For these awesome devs:
There is a huge bug at the end of this where my arty won't shoot yet I get the cooldown. I expect this to be fixed by mid March, thx.
Otherwise, gg but there wasn't any arty from my side really other than the howie that wouldn't fire.
I had the same problem today with the leFH German Howitzer. I fired a barrage once normally. On my second barrage I intentionally cancelled it before it started firing shells to reposition it again, but every time I tried to fire after that it refused to do so and went on cooldown. I also tried using the Officer's Victor Target ability and it still didn't fire. |
