1v1 Scout car punished me...any tips welcome. Teller on the kv8 was brutal, as was his camping of my cutoff. |
This was great! I love getting the historical context of these units, thank you! |
Does anyone feel that gameplay is cramped in 2v2?
The meta-game issue where every game ends with an ISU-Elefant + ATG slugfest might partly be because flanking is next to impossible on maps like Crossing in the Woods, Semois.
The maps are narrow and full of pathing-killers. Maneuverability is massively reduced. This means for example that the t34s speed can't really be utilised. Why trade in armour for speed when speed has so little effect on gameplay? It should be a flank-tank but flanking is too risky.
If the maps were wider + less choked with obstacles, it would be more feasible to make a two-pronged attack from 2 different directions to make the elefant or ISU turn and expose its rear armour. But currently they only need to turn a few degrees. access to the flanks is always through a choke-point full of mines and panzerfausts/AT grenades.
So our option is always full-frontal attack, which means elefant/ISU. Weaker but faster units don't cut it.
If there were wider maps, there would be more options for macro and micro for both armies and less reliance on big units that can sit in one spot and dominate. It would also make both those super tanks more difficult to use because of their movement speed. They could be countered by clever macro/micro and strategic positioning.
Anyone agree?
Completely agree. I made a post about this very issue, specifically regarding the isu and the elefant. 100 range units break the game on small maps with 4 players. |
Were there scatter nerfs? I thought it was just ROF.
I went back and looked at the patch notes and your right, there was no scatter nerf. This puzzles me because the nebel (and to a lesser extent) used to be killing machines, now they don't seem to do much of anything. |
They used to be the ideal counter for support unit spam on maps like semoisky, but now there is almost nothing that can clear out a massive build up of maxims, mortars, and atgs, short of a kv8. The rof and scatter nerfs were a little to much imo. |
This is a very impressive compilation of videos! I'm sure many new players will see these and learn from them. Very well done, thank you! |
Hey man, welcome to the community! Hope you find someone to play with, I'm always open for some games, but I work the night shift at a restaurant so I doubt our schedules would match up. |
Jaeger Armor Doctrine is a free commander. In fact, I think it's one of the ones you have straight off the bat.
I can't remember (and don't feel like looking up) if Shock Motor Heavy and/or Mechanized Support are premium items.
Good points.
Oh yeah, I guess I forgot that was a free commander. I would still like to hear relics point of view about reworking redundant commander abilities and commanders like NKVD and German Infantry that are completely unviable. |
I also agree that the Jaeger Armor Commander, which has the Elephant, plus offmap Recon & Stuka Bomb, is just stupid good, as the recon/stukabomb is perfect synergy with the Elephant, which can eliminate most of it's natural counters.
Have we ever received a comment from Relic regarding the possibility of reworking existing commanders?

Also if they buffed artillery in some fashion (Personally I think they should just be cheaper ) the counters to these long range beasts will come back. Now I will say that a quick easy hot fix of the problem would be taking out the bombing strikes for each of the doctrines that have the ISU and the elephant. Right now they come stock with the counter to artillery and a way to liven up the combat would be able to safely (relatively) going for artillery.
I agree that it is a little silly that the one of the elefant docs comes stock with recon run + stuka. IMO that combo should never have been introduced to the game, as it single handedly counters any arty piece with enough munis saved. How is that in any way fun or interesting game design? It would be interesting to hear from Relic how they feel about changing commander trees that people have paid for. I'm sure there would be some sort of "bait and switch" issue here, with people being offered one thing for their service, and then having it retroactively changed seems slightly immoral. They really painted themselves into a corner with this whole paid commander system... |
