Judging from the comments in this thread the "make vehicles more expensive so that you're stuck using more inf" goes utterly against the playstyle of the userbase.
Umpteen posts, of which about 3 are commenting upon inf rather than T34/SU85/P4. |
I don't mind the RNG. Sure I'd love for my tanks not to slow to a crawl EVERY SINGLE TIME some inf coughs near them. But the bit of randomness stops the game being stale. It's like a real-life medal-winning moment.
What were the chances of Robert Cain surviving at Arnhem? Slim, but he did. The RNG is occasional enough to be that. As long as you can say in general that x will work against y, then that's good enough for me. After all, war is hell, strange things happen.
Given the choice between some variance that allows for the unexpected to occur, or COH just being a graphical representation of a spreadsheet, I'll take the former. |
Surely it would be easy to test. There are a few bulletins that speed up tank build times. Anyone who is far enough along could just get a stop-watch and build a tank with multiple x% quicker bulletins. That would answer the general "how it's done" thing, and would be free from RNG and thus more accurate. |
The last thing the Zis needs is a buff. Jesus those things rip me to shreds all the time. They're worse than the US AT guns from COH1. Especially with the frankly ridiculous accuracy of tanks. In a 1v1 the Zis will win every time, even if you flank it. |
I bought the collectors edition, partly for the bonuses, but mainly to support the developer who made my favorite game of all time.
This. Also I only had COH1 on DVD, so was happy to grab a Steam version.
I've brought enough games that disappointed me, I don't mind spending an extra £20 on one that I haven't stopped playing for six years. |
Apparently we counter sniper/m3/guards by getting them drunk with whine. Meanwhile back at the ranch... |
I would be happy if they just said that each ability is worth a certain point value, you have 15 points to play with, create-a-commander.
It's not complicated, would be easy to implement, and (assuming that the points values are already balanced) wouldn't unbalance the game.
It might, shock horror, even increase variety. After all, if I want the 120mm Mortar that instantly limits me to 1 doctrine, and I never get to play with an IS2 or SU150 (or whatever it's called). If I could replace the pointless radio intercepts with a mortar crew, or guards, or shock troops, life would be good.
Equally as some doctrines are more popular than others because the early game decides the endgame so heavily, then rather than rarely meeting certain units I might come across them if someone wants an Elefant to go with their Opel Blitz. |
Absolutely. I wasn't taking issue with the problem of placement, merely the label of moron to anyone who does enjoy some terrain. |
Apparently they enjoy Scheldt and Vire River Valley just as much as the morons in public lobbies from Vcoh.
It's a mentality thing. To those of us who aren't confident in our rushing abilities, or perhaps prefer to blunt the attack and then counter, such maps are more enjoyable than swathes of nothingness.
So just because we like a different map type doesn't make us morons. I happen to like a choke point. |
Yes. They'll always come from the nearest. |
