As I wrote on the official forums I believe the lack of "dynamic cover system" as well as the very different graphics quality from the screens PC Gamer posted hint they are using a different engine. (as some rumors hinted before me, I think it's Unity)
Various points to back up this idea of a new engine: bigger scale fights, less details on each model, fixed cover system, more focus on bigger units and "elitè" units. Unity would be perfect for this and it would provide a much more optimized engine to manage big battles.
I think the game will be closer to the DOW1 design but also closer to the Supreme Commander scale rather than the COH scale: if this happens to be the truth we could expect a pretty different game compared to what we are used to see from Relic; my guess, with the few information we have, is that DOW3 will be a sort of hybrid RTS/MOBA with a focus on team games and macromanagement (where micro would be mainly accomplished from units positioning and Elitè units unique abilities).
It could represent a smart move in some way since it would mean having an easier to play and on bigger scale Relic game that would be designed to be more appealing and easy to approach for a wider amount of people (kinda like Arena is in the Total War franchise). On the other side it's a risk, they might be further "dumbing down" the game mechanics and a lot of fans might not like it.
Personally I am looking forward to see a game with a different approach compared to Company of Heroes so I am totally interested in the new project. Graphics might not be as good as previous games but if the scale is actually bigger (and also zoomed out more) it wouldn't really matter.
Let's wait and see more info about it
PS: Obviously for a COH3 I would want to see a better version of COH1, more punishing and more rewarding for good micro play. Having two different paths for their franchises to cater two different audiences might actually be a good long term plan!
Plz no MOBA crap thank you. Relic should stick with what they know. And the game better runs ok, COH2 engine is shit. |
Assault Engineers have niche applications and the M10 is good. Not one of the best doctrines, sure, but there are loads of commanders that are worse than this one. See, uh, NKVD Tactics and German Infantry Doctrine.
Don't forget Royal Arty! |
well I agree I guess, even though you dont see sturmpios charging up to just about anybody past the early game and doing anything productive either, unless properly positioned and supported. Thats just a grass is greneer on the other side mentality. they reinforce for the same cost and AE's cost less than sturmpios.
the flamer is always a great reason to buy them because as long as the game has buildings then you can call up your ass engies to help clear it, again especially when you dont send them in alone to do it.
how is 240 unreliable? it does its job, if you want an area full of enemies to not be full of enemies anymore then drop it. its as reliable as it gets in that regard and with armor idk why but i always float munis even barzooking everything with thompsons.
you can also do it during a big m10 push, but dont bring your infantry along cuz i've had some bad moments thinking the barrage was over and then....(poof)
I once call a 240mm barrage on Flak Truck and none of the shells hit it, unless the whole sector is crowded with enemies the results tend to be... varying.
Sturmpio reinforce for 32mp, AE 35mp and they scale really poorly compared to Sturmpio. I would prefer AE to armed with M1 Carbine and drop their reinforce cost to like 28-30mp. You can never have more than 1 of them cuz they bleed mp like crazy. |
You could have these without a flag.
Just have a painted circle on the ground or something.
This, a thousand time this, sticking with the flag when the cap mechanic is changed is a lazy move from Relic, just give us a circle and the change can be viewed from minimap, like World in Conflict. |
i try using other docs in 1v1 but armor is the one i always gravitate back to.
yes m10s are op crushers but theyre main opness is being fuel coupons.... when you've had a cutoff fest of a game, theyre invaluable.
+youre underestimating vehicle crew thompson + ass engy tactical control group on the right map. Dont use them on langres, dont use them to charge up. ambush and watch them shred. otherwise you're setting them up to fail.
Youre also wrong about offensive vet, they get vet 3 pretty quick which includes -29% received accuracy, making them decently durable.
The arty offmap is tied with mech arty for being the best usf has, except its more situational so i guess the edge goes to mech arty.
the dozer is worthless shit garbage diarrhea, i give you that, but thats it. the other parts of the doc are solid.
Ass Eng best feature is flamer demo and crit repair, for everything else they are over price wannabe Sturmpio.
240mm arty is unreliable as hell, that thing is 50% a waste of muni.
People pick Armor for M10, everything else is extra ice on the cake. |
This thing can not shoot through building and just this single feature makes Pak 43 way better, especially in 1v1, when you can surprise the enemy, 1 Pak trade 1 tank is pretty good if you happen to catch an unsuspecting IS/Pershing or some greedy Callie. |
I don't know, man. Before I switched to wehr from sovs I killed pumas with t70s or su76s. They are not really that good.
Really though the only good thing is smoke. Osttruppen are only okay when you screwed up really bad and lost most of your infantry. Command tank kinda sucks even vs infantry since it has the same splash as normal p4 but the damage is twice as low, plus it doesn't have pintle mg. Getting it only for aura doesn't seem too great of an idea.
Osttruppen totally trash IS without Bren, Cons and is the most effective unit to faust/screen for your Sniper/Panzergren especially with Command tank, that bonus is OP as hell, this is a pretty solid commander, OH has been using them since its release, it covers all OH weakness: lack of cheap inf screen, light vehicle and late game staying power. It is not flashy like TA/Tiger/CAS but nothing hardcounter it, like in ESL people use Puma + Command P4 is nearly untouchable. |
That's a load of crap. How is OKW going to be able to afford all these flame nades, fausts and STGs now plus whatever other necessary abilities? It's totally unnecessary, FPs are fine and already very cheap.
FP can be killed by small arms fire so unless you got some other squad to guard it (which kinda defeat the point of FP), a single pio squad can wreck it and regarding flame nades, flame nades cost 30 muni, FP upgrade need 60 muni so no if you spam FP you would be the one out of muni. |
Meta changes as a direct response to patches. Granted, there may be organic shifts in the meta but most come from buffs & nerfs.
As to my match, it had nothing to do with pumas and more to do with the unkillable weh sniper along with the doubt shot from the vet 1 ability (and let us not forget how bad USF is overall). The puma was of little consequence that game. A better example, which shows the power of the puma's synergy with a heavy T1-T2 build, would be this game against paula on the same map
Also should be noted Veterency wasn't working for less than a year, despite anything Relic says. There was a patch in 2015, after the brit release, which dealt with vet that was probably the point where the bug was introduced.
Don't forget the rest of Mobile Defense are also pretty good (maybe not counter attack which is meh): smoke for vehicles, Osttruppen for screening and OP command P4, Puma is not the sole selling point of the commander. |
Command P4 synergy so well with Osttruppen + Puma horde that it's not even funny for Allied to break through it, you better pray that your Fireflies can 1 shot it before the rest of OH rekts your army. |
