Squad wipes>number of kills always if you're trying to compare the 120 mm to wehr turbo mortar. Squad kills is MP draining and momentum killing not to mention loss of vet.
120 mm in 2v2 is broken and uncounterable. It's the only weapon team that you need to kill all 6 models which is lol. Mortar halftrack flames=40 munis for the mortar to retreat 2 steps back to the base reinforce and then move 2 steps outside the base and start wiping squads a mile away (ex: Moscow outskirts, crossing in the woods). Mortar HT flames also sometimes don't cover the circle the mortar is in and it's DPS is mega lol to kill 6 models. OKW stuka just to counter is lol b/c it also doesn't guarantee a simple decrewing if you put the mortar behind a shock blocker.
2v2 soviets one with T2 the other one con spam into two 120mm mortars with guards is literally drag and drop attack move, go get something to eat, call in t34-85s, drag and drop attack move some more, call in IS2, take a piss and come back and click exit game after germans ragequit. |
For the record, I just used several flame mortar rounds from the flame HT on the 120mm mortar is inconsistent AF. Sometimes it kill 3-4 models, sometimes it kills only 1. 40 munis just to kill 3-4 models only to have the thing keep firing is bs. Killing it on the retreat with an upgraded scout car is just lol. It can't even kill 1 model unless it follows it from 2/3 of the map back to base. |

I've been running up against this strat often and I'm not sure how to counter this. My partner and I play 2v2 Ost and OKW. Double soviets is the biggest issue because the match goes with variations of this:
1. Con spam or t1/t2 (both sides break even)
2. Get 2 120mm mortars and put it right outside base (crossing woods/moscow outskirts/karkov), lock down half the map and get squad kills, OKW truck kills (we're losing)
3. Fight shocks and guards with ost t2, OKW medic-->flak (both sides break even)
4. Take katy rockets and hope there are no squad wipes (we're losing)
5. Fight t34-85s and IS2 with tiger, paks, shrek blob, panther/jagdpanther (both sides break even)
Problem is we're stuck at 2 and 4.
We can kill the mortars with munis, but it's not a good trade to spend munis just to decrew it when it can be recrewed again. Also, it can be retreated with 1 man so it takes some luck that the crew is bunched up when it gets naded/flame mortar/etc. Frontal attacks with the mortars supported (as always) is just more risk for squad wipes.
As for the katy, is there any alternative that doesn't involve teching to t3? P4 rushes have worked, but it's usually a base rush where the p4 gets traded with the katy b/c of mines, retreated cons with AT nades conveniently at the base, etc. Not a good trade. Teching to t3 also delays tiger and burns more MP that needs to be used to recrew stuff, replace squads, fight t34-85s & IS2. |

The usefulness of this unit is horrendously low. USA can shoot a smoke grenade every engagement and soviets can oorah every engagement to force a retreat. What else are they going to spend their munis on? Is it better to not use it at all? Every unit has a grenade now adays, so even a yolo flank get decrew it. It's definitely not worth the risk of it getting decrewed and stolen. Not to mention grenadiers are just glass cannons and can't even support a flanked mg42 without two of them around. |

How is this unit worth anything at all? It comes at t4 and can't even kill ATG. It only shoots once and is worth 85 fuel??? |
This thing is way overperforming. It either needs a crit reduce or reduced range. These things are supposed to get things out of buildings and cover, not front line weapons that can take out 2 models at range. |
I've been running into this a lot whenever the early game is a bit shaky. Basically, the Sherman HE rounds are ridiculous and it's literally a RNG fight since its shot can wipe full vet, 5 man volks squad easy or take out one model. It's fast enough to dodge pupchens at that stage of the game. How do you counter this if you go medic truck first? Do you just wait until panthers and pray every engagement you don't get a volks squad-shrek wipe? |
