You should build your rig around good graphics card. You dont need i7 to run games fine. i5 or even i3 will do fine for most. You dont have to pay for 1833MHz RAM. There will be "zero" difference in game if you buy 1600Mhz (I personally prefer better timnings on RAM especially with Intel Haswell). Pick best GPU you can afford and put other stuff together if you cannot afford high end. You'd be right if you were talking about any other game than COH2 - unfortunately COH2 needs a beasty CPU AND GPU - its not simply graphics dependent. In: Lobby

And no, I don't get that kind of FPS at the highest settings, but it's not on lowest settings either, and that's for a rig that cost me €1000 3 years ago. Saying that you need stuff like "a motherboard of at least $130" is ridiculous. You realize a basic mid spec MB is $130 and most of the "good" ones are nearer to $200+? Your i5-2500k is going for $150 plus still on ebay too - so right there, $280 for your MB/CPU combo. In: Lobby

I say a target price between 750 to 950 USD could be achievable without the SSD HD. Volt - I know - you'll see the system I specked you could do for around $700 USD - including an SSD. What I am saying though is the GPUs and CPU's being brandied about - 780s, 290x....7970's etc - they were all at one time or another THE fastest performing single GPU chip cards available - same for the CPU's. Requiring the leading GPU and CPU to play a game like COH2 - it's just incomprehensible. This isn't Crysis etc - the graphics aren't good enough for the requirements being made of it. As far as CPU horsepower - requiring an i7 for a GAME - that's just nuts. In: Lobby

Thread: PSU Wattage4 Sep 2014, 15:43 PM Never - EVER - cheap out on a PSU. People spend hundreds on a CPU, and some even over a THOUSAND on a GPU...yet one bad PSU, you can risk it all. I personally would be going at a PSU over 650 for that set up - you might want to go an AIO cooler set up later, maybe a second GPU, you'll need the watts. That said - brand recommendations - Seasonic and Corsair are 2 you can bank on, XFX is another. Seasonic make internals for other manufacturers also, so a bit of research can do you well. The rest is using old architecture. SSD is cool to have quick loading times, but don't have an impact on the game. The cost of a 780 is just....yeah! My Crossfire 7950's have more GPU power than a 780 and cost about $200 total, given that the change in architecture of GPUs has really been limited since the 7 series (AMD wise) there's little gain to be made buying a 290x/780 when an SLI/Crossfire 7970/7950 will do a much better job for half the cost. Granted there's heat and noise and power and tech ability to be considered - but that 7 series of AMD's really knocked it out of the park, much like the 5 series did before that. Still - if you have the $ - 780s are a great card too. Shame COH2 can't do SLI/Crossfire....but it sure can do snow "effects".....grumble In: Lobby
Thread: A good starting computer setup to play Coh23 Sep 2014, 19:36 PM Oh boy - this is a hard one due to COH2 being both GPU AND CPU intensive. CPU wise you're constrained to a minimum of an i5 or FX-8350 (If you're AMD inclined) - and Intel prices really haven't dropped, i5-2500k's still hold their value, so you really can't get a cheap option here. Expect to pay about $300 +/- for a good CPU/MB combo. RAM - I found 16GB to be a "sweet spot" for COH2 - 8GB was noticeably slower. GPU - Now here you can find value. I'd recommend picking up a used 7950 (which is re-badged as a 270X) for +/- $100 on ebay, or a 7970 (re-badged as a 280X). No reason to buy the "New" card when the old one is just as good, if not better in some ways given the overclocking ability of the 7950 and 7970. An SSD, while nice, isn't a necessary component for a "starting" computer - but for $99 you can get a Crucial Mx-100 256GB which would be more than enough for an OS and several game/programs. Still - its really hard to get a "cheap" performance COH2 system. So assuming $300 for the CPU/MB, $100 for the GPU, $100 RAM, $80 PSU (700W + Seasonic etc), $80 Case (depending on taste) and $100 SSD - you're looking at $760 for a very strong system. In: Lobby
Thread: Soviet Snipers Squad are not fun2 Sep 2014, 22:43 PM I know Relic has an "asymmetrical" hard on - but the only way snipers can work is if there's BALANCE. Right now there's just no balance for the Soviet sniper. They need to make the Wehrmacht and Soviet snipers exactly even so there's counter sniping etc (and not the current vet required, muni required, RNG required Wehrmacht counter snipe). In: COH2 Balance
