I think a lot of it stems from the 2.602 patch for CoH1 and how Relic really seemed to be behind the community pushing for esports, then coh2 hit. |
I understand what you might be feeling L337, but I can tell you that I am almost certain this is how the servers interact with lag.
Especially in larger games (your replay is a 4v4) where as many as eight people from around the world are connected to each other. I have had games that had as much as a 20 second delay between commands and reactions.
What happens in these sorts of situations gets really really glitchy. Things like where your mouse was when it clicked lags behind, how and when units move and react to calculations gets screwy, and most of all, it is never consistent. The delays will fluctuate immensely from any given point in time.
For example you will attempt to retreat a unit, select another unit and tell it to move into cover, then spend time trying to reverse a tank out of danger. However, you hitting "t" for retreat on the first unit doesn't register until you have the tank selected. Because of the delay, 20 seconds later your tank suddenly has its crew jump out (we're pretending you're playing USF now).
The second unit then moves where you were telling your tank to go, and the first unit has long since been wiped because it never retreated.
Let me tell you, lag REALLY bungles up how everything functions ingame. I've experienced very similar things as you and only after I went over the games have I been able to piece together what is happening.
I could be wrong, but these are my experiences and perspective on the matter. |
I've never been a fan of using vehicles to push infantry in both CoH1 and CoH2. But this has much to do with how infantry react to the vehicles intended path rather than it's actual path.
If it didn't glitch out unit behaviors so much, I'd be more receptive to it.
I wish there were bikes and jeeps again that can get easily abandoned if they're shot at in close range. It's always what I thought should happen since CoH1. |
I think your point is valid. Also, to compound matters, USF teching produces another unit. The LT is a powerful infantry unit in its own right starting with BARs, and the captain with their zooks helps against Ostheer's lighter vehicles. This reduces the need for purchased BARs or zooks, which can save USF players some resources early on.
But at the same time, a rushed M20 can kind of hamstring USF by delaying the crap out of ATGs, and saving for captains first can really give Ostheer the room they need early game.
However, I agree overwhelmingly with the notion that the problem with most matches, regardless of faction, in CoH2 have to do with the maps and how they're designed. |
Only recon passes should give sight. No other planes should reveal FoW.
It'd fix a lot of issues with planes, imo. |
It's an overlook, but it's really not their fault.
There are only a few wrecks that can be placed in the worldbuilder that can't be salvaged. Every vehicle in the game has a corresponding wreck entity that replaces it upon death, and these are the wrecks that people have to work with. However, mixed in with these wrecks there are decorative wrecks that I assume were used for single player scenarios, and these ones aren't salvageable and provide cover. (With the exception of a panther wreck, which has no hitbox or cover, so units will just phase through it like it's not there.) The problem is that there are only a few models. A Panzer 3, a Sherman, and I think a Panzer 4.
It was the same way in CoH1. I remember being really happy with a number of maps that I'd created then realized I'd created an infinite muni maps for Wehrmacht. There are a bunch of great wreck models in CoH1 that I was sad didn't make it to CoH2.
Reducing the health of the wrecks to 1 IIRC was a workaround, but a single bullet destroyed the wreck. Which can potentially be remedied by increasing the armor of the wreck to like 400. I'd have to test that. |
Pretend it is a Hawthorne tree and it's in Ireland. |
I'm amazed at how little there is here.
Although the only change I slightly disagree with is Panthers being included in the Blitzkrieg nerf. Maybe.
Other than that, it's a good patch. I just try not to think about the five months it took to get here. |

My SSD isn't even big enough for CoH2 to install or patch. I had to move it over to a clunky old disc drive that has made load times more than triple.
I've ALT-F4ed and reopened the game to get out of matches quicker.
I miss having CoH2 on my SSD. Stupid massive patching and installation requirements.
Although I really should just mklink it again... |
Relic just needs to stop pretending like everyone doesn't already know they squandered millions of dollars in funding to mod the Essence engine for the third time.
It's taken literally hours for the community to make sweeping changes to the engine with the crippled tools they've provided and I can tell you there's zero justification that the funding they've used over time has gone towards anything tangible.
This is why I am pretty sure that there's so much legal tone to this. There's AAA funding at work in this game and nothing/very little to show for it. |
