You guys apparently never played CoH1. Riflemen came out of BARRACKS. Snipers came from WEAPON SUPPORT CENTER. Getting riflemen and snipers meant you had to back tech, costing 180mp and 15 fuel. By the logic I've seen on this thread, you could say "BUT THAT'S NOT FAIR YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SPEND 180mp and 15 fuel for WSC and then another 340mp for sniper, axis is OP can't kill MGs".
Also, jeep vision to flank MGs was never a thing people did. People would just get 4 riflemen, split them all up, move them all in at the same time from 4 directions, and then you react in the moment.
Furthermore, Rangers weren't a problem either. Super expensive and everyone went right hand side of infantry doctrine anyway, not left side for rangers. If you went rangers you were asking for the wehrmacht to beat you. |

do you really think it should require 4 squads, each costing more than the mg itself, plus the additional ammo cost for grenades to counter this one cheap starter unit for ostheer? If he had a 2nd mg backing up the first one on that map your flank would probably have just been shut down immediately.
Its easy to try making this a L2P, try flanking issue but the fact is that good players anticipate a flank and focus on choke points, plant mines, and have secondary units available to break up a flank, or rely on off-map abilities like strafe. If flank execution is much more difficult and requires much more micro than preventing a flank does then balance is off.
Yes, MGs + Grens should beat riflemen when used properly. USF has access to bars/nades/M20 in order to tip the balance in their favour. If americans could win the early game relying completely on vanilla rifles that would be really unfortunate for ostheer. And if he had the second MG I would have just shot smoke at it. The riflemen were positioned so only 1 could get suppressed by 1 Mg, not two. There would still been 2 free squads running around tossing nades if there were 2 mgs supressing. |
Just played a 1v1 as USF. Guy had MG in church on Semois. I flanked it with 4 riflemen and killed it with nades, then stole it. If that MG was any more broken though I probably would have lost the game right there. |

If the two players are of equal skill it's never a roflstomp. But the axis factions are designed to be weaker early game. That's why both OKW and Ostheer infantry is weaker than USFs. That's why Ostheer has MG42s to combine with their Grenadiers to win riflemen by using positioning and baiting tactics. That's why OKW has a resource deficit and 5 levels of vet. Allies have always had strong infantry and controlled the pace of the early game with their manoeuvrable squads. It just so happens that before the MG42 buff, an american player could run 4 riflemen at an MG42 and kill it. That shouldn't happen and is rewarding slopping noob play. Have you ever tried running 4 riflemen directly at an MG42 in CoH1? Let me tell you, they won't even kill the gunner of the gun, let alone wipe the crew. As I said before, if americans could survive against the strong MG42s of CoH1, then they most certainly will in CoH2 with riflegrenade smoke and fast M20s. People just need to give this patch some more time and both learn how to play effectively against MG42s and become better players overall. We can't simply nerf the MG42 simply because a few allied fanboys find the game too difficult now. |

Getting there. Except catching mass banelings with a helli push into fast expand with good micro will win you the game.
As USF you don't have the equivalent of that. You get Rifles upon rifles upon rifles, yay!
Agreed that it is shitty for Americans having only access to riflemen for the first few minutes of the game. Maybe we need to think of some new strats as a community though. Mechanized assualt for the early jeep car thingy that I never used maybe? With nades, tech to stuart, who knows what kind of stuff will work if people change their playstyles |
