It wasn't that bad but past 1 week or so I've noticed a really big downturn. Think with the launch of open beta, a lot of people moved over. Will be curious once free open beta is over, how many people come back.
But not even sure how much it matters how many people are playing. I logged in yesterday with 100 people in GR rooms and thought oh cool, I'll get a quick game. 1 hour later, nothing, simple 1v1 mind you. Not trying for anything crazy.
It's got to be broken the match making system. Multiple people were complaining they couldn't get games and they were close to my lev.
the drop hacks, well, until they penalize for it, it is the new norm.
Other night out of 15 games over 4 hours, I had 3 real games, the rest were instant drops at load up screen.
At least we can still play. I been spending more time trying to find similar ranked players, and then you just have to play them in skirmish or basic match because odds are you will not get a decent game in auto. |
hm, they said several times, they will do that after the launch of CoH2.
i really hope so. Question is will there be a big enough player pool by then to get games.
It's really difficult now unless you're playing 16-24:00 GMT

I have one basic problem, although what you mention is very important indeed.
I can't see my units. I'm old, like dirt. So maybe it's my eyes. My troops look like little ants. All the colors sort of blend except of course for the Vegas slot machine show of everything flashing and power up sounding.
I can barely tell infantry wise, a Russian unit from a German unit.
And as you mentioned, my other big problem is the rush to vehicles. They should have called it Company of Armor.
Lastly, what's with all the flamer units. Way overkill. Everything has flames. |
If you want to play 2v2, add me on steam: ltaustinpowers. My mate and I are eager to play some decent skilled people again on coh
you the guys from California? Think I played you handful of nights ago. You guys were good, but I had shit partner.
If I find a good one, I'll ping you for a game. |
All the flashing bells and whistles on the UI make me want to claw my eyes out, frankly. The worst is when you get your first CP- jesus, if that stays they're going to need to put an epilepsy warning on the box.
Vegas, Baby, Vegas. It's like you hit a jack pot on a slot machine. And all the "power up" like noises. It reminds me of an old arcade game like donkey kong or something.
Curious to see how the game rates once it comes out. But it's going to make the comp stompers happy. All those flamer weapons early on, lots of flashy lights and gimmicky noises.
What a shame. They had a great game with original. Just needed to update the graphics, add the Russian faction, include stuff like true sight, vaulting, maybe some new units, and all would be great. |
think the game is quickly dying. As much bitching was done about coh2, everyone still flocked to it like flies to shit yesterday as soon as open beta came out. So that really sucked out a lot of "active" COH players.
And that's why COH2 will never get improved much because they know people are going to buy it as is.
Oh well, there's still some COH die hards. Just very difficult to get a fairly matched game recently if you're in that 10-14 range (old COH levels). You either get too high or too low lev or a straight out drop hacker. Maybe 10% of my games are actually GG. |
there's definitely some big time bugs. I logged off on Friday night as a lev 10, came back next day and I was a lev 6 now. And then the games I played that day, I loaded up as lev 1 on the screen. WTF?
Took me about 15 games to get back to lev 10. The worst part is that other people were loading up as lev 1 as well. So if you won/lost you didn't get the right movement up the ladder.
Anyway, who cares, it's a mess, but I can still get in games. I don't see how others are having such a hard time. It's very hard though to get a fair match up, that's why the "true" lev thing is annoying. I'm either getting too low lev or getting matched against too high. I think I've only had 5 games out of 120+ where it was a GG.
The other thing that is interesting, kind of unscientific, but I'd say map hack was pretty prevalent in the old version. Worst than I thought. I'm having a much easier time with similar ranked levs than in the past on the old servers. I mean much, much easier. I doubt my game has improved that significantly. The game kind of feels slower now, i.e. I'm not being attacked constantly or magically outnumbered in certain parts of the map all game long. My tech choices aren't as anticipated, etc.
IDK, maybe it's just the levs are all messed up so I'm really not matching up properly, but I've beaten 3 "former" lev 16s which in the past I had never beaten any. |
so if Pro = make money from game, I don't think there will be many over 30 or even past college age. Reason being, I can't put in the hours needed in the hopes to win $50 and a graphics card. Sorry, baby needs milk or he starts to cry : )
I get the game, understand the strats, pretty much know the macro and micro (visually when i see it, doing it is tough consistently), but yeah you got practice every day, several games a day. Just not going to happen once you have a family. If I'm lucky I can get in about 10-15 hours per week which could be good I think, but the problem is it's usually in the midnight to 2:00am range after a really long day. So not only time put in, but when i'm putting it in. |
what's pro? Like you make money playing the game? Or certain level, top 10 ranking, etc.
I'm 41, just scratched into lev 15 wehr. Probably more like a lev 13-14 consistent player, but I beat 3 lev 15s in a row on the non steam version few weeks ago to get to lev 15 yeah!!!!
But still lots to learn. Clicks and mousing around aren't my problems. I'm just flat out exhausted after long day of work, time with kids at home, taking care of wife, etc. that by the time I play, my reaction time has got to be shit. But I've had some fun games. Beat #10 or #11 on the Brit leader board once!!! Hoorah! |
I have one major problem. Maybe it's just my 41 year old eyes, but I can't see my units. They blend into the background too easily and the outline color isn't clear enough between mine and enemy units. I can't read the map with the zones. Sometimes I completely miss a strat point. I'm looking right at it on the mini map and have to micro around a few inches to have it pop up.
I heard Tac map is just a place holder, but it's crap. Same with mini map. I mean complete crap.
If I can't navigate my units then all the game play really doesn't matter.
I'm lev 14-15 on VCOH, I feel completely lost playing COH2. I expected a learning curve, learning the new units, counters, etc. But I didn't expect to be totally lost with basics like moving a unit from point A to point B.
I haven't played enough to comment on balance, strats, things like upkeep, etc. so I'll trust your word and the word of others as it seems like a common message.
Unit size. why have 6 man support squads? And then I never understood why when it gets to 1 man, then that's like complete death anyway. 3 man squads are fine. Make it so if it gets down to 1 man, you can't fire the weapon but you can still retreat intact.
The 2 man sniper squad is a joke.
The whole game feels cartoony to me with all the flashing lights and power up sounds, etc. I know in practice what's killing this game is trying to be too real, but the aesthetics feel arcadey to me compared to VCOH. VCOH has a real nice flow to it and the units move smoothly.
Honestly I got a free beta, but no way I would consider buying at full price unless there are drastic changes. |
