Apart from some "would be interesting" and "its about the maps to make it work" theres no real arguments for mirrors as far as i can tell.
Hypothetical situation: mirrors are in, there are perfectly symmetrical maps in the pool.
What if you dont get one of those maps? What if you get a symmetrical map, but Not a mirrors matchup? What if only one tech path is viable for a certain mirror? If you dont do it,you lose. If you do it and slip up once, you lose. If RNG hates you, you lose. What if Hey decide to patch a few things to balance mirrors? it fucks up the other matchups.
Just cause you can build the same units does not make a matchup balanced.
Most of those examples you used go both ways. So does it matter? |

This is a terrible strawman. You could use that argument against any RTS and make the same point. If SC2, C&C, MoW or DoW was kittens, puppies and hamsters, of course people would be turned off. But that doesn't have anything to do with mirror matches, or CoH, in any way, shape or form.
To answer the bolded question: yes, I've played CoH since retail because of the mechanics and an interest in WWII. However, I've played CoH for so many years now that my fondness of the WWII aspect has almost completely dissipated. CoH is much, much more than its setting, to me. And no, no other game touches its mechanics - certainly not DoW II's horribly watered-down attempt at it. But if it did, and it did them better? I'd play that. A worse game with a preferable setting or richer authenticity is still a worse game.
Authenticity is just as bad an argument against mirrors as realism is.

SC2+Blizzard focus on the esport side and the game blew up. LoL focused on the esport side and the game blew up. The competitive scene keeps the game in the present for years to come. |
Not every game can adopt to LoL's style in LoL you build you "character"(mostly favored) whit runes(like diablo 3 where every upgrade gives you +10 more stats) ! What you will do in COh2 ? Buy new commanders ? its just does not fit here and never will........Pay-to-Win models can only adopt to RPG genre games and RPG genre games where you build your character(actually its very addicting to become stronger and stronger overtime)
I am sure someone will figure out a pay2win model for RTS that will work. Just no one has gotten it right yet. |
What about Observer Maps? We do use it for EF mod, Observer Langres and Angoville, so 2 more people can join and watch the game live while it's played. Maybe by simple map options this problem can be solved. What do you think?
works, but this is another thing that the community has to do on its' own. Not the developers who we are paying a game for. |
If Randomness played such a huge factor you would see such a different group of people winning the tournaments. IT is obviously not that. Even though luck is in the game the better player almost always wins. |

How many people here are actually playing in Alpha and have tried the mirror matches? They are quite enjoyable. |
The difference is poker (not online) takes luck, but it is genuine luck. Not luck decided by a computer spitting out random numbers. You can still get lucky in CoH without the random factor, like if you decided to scout his base and right before a Puma was finished you saw a completed tank depot> you cancel Puma and get a Stug instead. Another example is if your cloak storm trooper walked in to a sniper that you didn't even know was there, or if you started a huge flank while someone was repositioning their MG.
An example of the "bad" randomness factor is if a sniper walked over a mine and survived with 5% health, or if a Sherman one shotted a 4 man Grenadier.
Luck is all numbers and statistics. Regardless if it is computer generated or the natural numbers of life. |
