I'm also against captured equipment to avoid mirror-match situations. PPSh for Ostheer would be about as far as I'd want it to go, because that was very common. |
For infantry, pretty much any combination of weapons and abilities is possible, if appearance and voice isn't a problem. The Soviets do have an unused infantry model, though- pretty much a Guard without a cape.
For my mods, I've made-
-Festungspioneers. Like Heavy Sappers, but they have PzB 39s that can be put away.
-Tankbusters. 4CP call-in Obersoldaten with 2 panzerschrecks and modified vet bonuses.
-Assault Section. British infantry without cover penalties.
-4.2 Inch Mortar. Uses the very similar HM38 120mm model.
-251/8 Medical Halftrack
-Panther Ausf. G
-Stuart Mk. VI. Has Canister Shot instead of Engine Shot.
-Sherman IVB. 105mm for the British, no dozer.
The AT Hetzer needs some animation work before it can fit into the game seamlessly. It's impressive that modders were able to get it working, but the tools needed to make it perfect aren't available. I'd put the M45 Quadmount in the same category.
The M38 Carbine would be very nice to see, and would be relatively little work.
Starbuck also made a nice Priest Kangaroo skin by making the gun invisible. |
Where did the 'Offensive' information come from? It's not in the tools at all. USF and OKW have blank "DLC3" Commanders, but that's it.
As far as a theme for the commanders, I'm of course partial to the "Last Days of the war" idea... |
But ost jeagers were in game for years.
Originally there were 500mp squad that terminated everything in range, 5 G43s, also limited to 1 and basically unstoppable.
They were part of unreleased commander.
That's nuts; I hadn't heard of that. Was that commander part of a beta or something? Urban Assault Commander is still in the game files.
Also, for the M18, I enjoyed it in CoH1, but I don't think they captured the spirit of it. It wasn't fast, the model was huge, it had good armor, and it could stealth. I wanted a fragile speedster, like a Puma but more powerful. |
Since vehicles have huge target sizes, weapons with low accuracy are relatively very good against them. Pretty much all engineers fit that, actually (not Sturms or Assault Engies, but including REs)
It would make sense from a realism perspective for SMGs to have lower penetration values than rifles, but that would require more stat tweaks to not impact performance vs. infantry.
From the numbers, it looks like 5 commandos would deal 11.63 DPS to a 251 from the front, which means it would take 27.5 seconds for them to kill it. Double that from behind for 13.75 seconds, which is faster than I would have thought. |
This got me thinking-
Japan's weakness, and I think the main reason people are opposed to them being added, is their lack of tanks. Tanks provide a few things for the cost of fuel- immunity to suppression and small arms fire, munitions-free explosive damage, and maybe most importantly, can take damage without bleeding manpower.
I think Japan could be given those benefits in a different way. A "Fanaticism" bonus could be bought for mainline infantry, maybe 4 fuel per model. This would make them immune to suppression, harder to hit, and free to reinforce. You have to spend the fuel again for replacements, though. The squad's received suppression would be the same fraction as men with the upgrade. This would only be available around the same time other factions are getting their heavy tanks. |
Swapping it for the KT further normalizes the factions and makes the game more bland.
Over-similarity between factions, especially the German ones, is definitely something we should watch out for. However, the Tiger Ace is poorly designed and a replacement is pretty much the only way to solve it. An Ost KT could be differentiated by having a totally different ability/veterancy set.
Speaking of, here's the link to it: Elite Troops Doctrine: King Tiger
Very cool, I think this will make the idea more visible and make conversations about the change easier to talk about.
Before trying it, I have a feeling that it comes too early. ~15 would probably be appropriate. An overhaul of abilities and vet bonuses would be good as well.

Ah, wasn't thinking about that. A lot of people use middle mouse button to move around.
I don't really like middle mouse, but that gets me thinking: a side mouse button for movement? I use the main side button for tac map. |
I'd be ok with Thompsons and/or PIATs for them.
One thing is that the Soviets having the M5 halftrack non-doctrinally is a little silly- they only ever received like 500 of them. They would be a nice fit for a Lend-Lease Doctrine exclusive. |
I'm not great at the game, but I'll do my best to help! |
