Its not nearly as good as it was, it only gives yellow cover now.
Fight from equal cover with equal amounts of troops and you will do fine. LMG grenadiers tear them up very well.
If you see them rush your MG and you can't get them supressed in time just move your MG (dont retreat, move it). 95% of the time they're going to throw a molotov, so you need to get out of the way before the burn gets your MG.
You can then set up again in the back while your supporting troops deal with the rushers. |
They're nice to send to a flank, capping. They can deal with anything short of a vehicle and run off ninja-cappers easily. |
It does take significant time to build though, so if people can do it you've already given up the ground. They also need to cap the area first. The munitions+mp invested is significant in the early game too (same cost as an LMG/flamer).
It's also really vulnerable to heavier guns, try to hit it with an AT gun sometime.
Are you somehow implying that you think it should be defeatable by infantry? It's sort of meant to do well against those don't you think? |
I think they're a bit underwhelming now after the munition cost was added.
I have to think hard on whether i'd not rather have a lmg grenadier squad anyway. The grenade barrage may have a place as an early building clearer but nothing earthshaking.
I don't really use them much now. |
I'm mostly a 1v1 player, but I play the occasional teamgame. I was wondering what people think are the most useful doctrines when playing team games?
My own observations:
The big tank destroyers are very good (ISU, elephant) Teamgames tend to be long so you get a lot of chances to score tank kills.
Artillery is useful, stalemates or very strong positions are less of a problem if you have a howitzer. So doctrines that have these are good.
PAK43 can be good, sort of like the big TDs it will let you keep an area free of tanks. Easy to decrew though.
The opel truck seems a given good choice for teams due to the resource advantage it can give you.
But what I'm really asking I guess is if there are any particular doctrines that you can build a strategy around?

I've tried it a couple of times, it sort of works. You can contest as much of the map as the soviets with the cheap units that it feels kind of like piospam to me.
The osttruppen are really crap, but they're decent for delaying if you keep them in cover or buildings.
You can then use an MG to keep you most important point(s) and a sniper or two to actually kill something while you tech.
I am not really convinced that it works once people learn the new commander, it seems awfully hard to keep your cutoff if the opponent really focuses. It's good for punishing soviets who like to spread out and harass though since you can have more units than him and it seems to throw people off. |
Leaving aside DLC as such, pay to win and so on.
Is it just me or is it really hard to figure out the DLC structure?
I preordered, so I got some commanders, and recently got the case blue expansion also for free.
I can also buy the digital collectors edition, and an upgrade to same. I've no idea if this might be a good purchase since the actual content is so vague. To even see the digital collectors edition i have to add it to my cart and then enter it.
This includes a bunch of commanders (10) but which ones exactly? If i upgraded would I get commanders i don't yet have?
The Commander list is a mile long, and I've already got some of them, yet i can only see which if I enter each individual item.
I would really some more details in the store on all this and some "show only non-owned items" option.
Better yet I'd like some sort of group purchase option for commanders that would give me the ones I don't have.
I'm a MP player only, so all I really care about are the commanders. If there was a discounted "subscription" for the commanders i would buy it just to save the headache of evaluating each individual commander to see if I have it or want it... |
Pretty nice. I can see this doctrine working well for sheer staying power. In bloody battles being able to have so many squads for recrewing all the equipment lying around is a real benefit. In the early game you're really lacking though? You get run off a lot |
I like it fine, I'd simply leave if I did not. Still room for improvement though. |
Yep, without help it's toast, a circling T34 can kill it easily. |
