Technically it was actually VS AI on a custom map with that CoH 3 extended roster tuning pack mod. Who knows, maybe it was the map or maybe it was the tuning pack, all I know is that it just killed my will to play lmfao
I ran cheatmod last night and it killed my system, so maybe the extended mod might've done yours in too, on top of hosting. |
The only thing coh3 has going for it is its okay 1v1 and 2v2 balance. Let's not forget, though, that the majority of the playerbase are not 1v1 and 2v2 players, and I can tell you that 4v4 may be unbalanced in coh2, but a whole fuckton less so than coh3.
I was trying to give coh 3 another chance the other day, hosting a custom match with a custom 4v4 map. 3 times I tried hosting, 3 times CoH3 maxed out my ram (16 GB) and crashed itself.
I'm just not motivated enough to try again right now. I don't even want to play coh2 to be honest. I'm looking forward to the Men Of War 2 test. Other than that, I'm playing the Sims 2.
More maps, more battlegroups are the only things that interest me right now. And ONE 4v4 map for a grand total of THREE possible maps to play on is not enough for me lmfao.
I'm on 16gb of ram too. Odd. Though I haven't tried hosting, maybe that kills system memory.
Admittedly I play mostly 3v3 and 2v2 but 3v3 isn't quite as much of a shitfest as 4v4 which blew me out of the water. I threw in the towel for that mode the other day after getting dumpstered by a horde of jeeps and m8s. It was funny in that 4v4 kind of way but I don't have much time for that.
But I agree on the maps, there is quite a shortage. BGs otoh I'm a little apprehensive about them adding more because it's going to be fucked for a while while they wring out money from fotm players and then finally figure out how to balance them. |
I came back today to try it again after a few months off. Namely because they added maps for team games.
Tried a few 3v3/4v4 and the balance just seems to be really....bad. Worse then it was months ago by any stretch of the imagination. Combined with the lack of diversity as the remaining players play hard and fast by the meta or die.
Bersaglieri spam is still as obnoxious if not more so than it was in the past.
I dunno, I really held out hope for this game but the matches today left me realising this product is dead in the water and a misery to play.
4v4 is definitely where it's at when determining balance, no doubt about it |

A significantly more horrible way to think about it is when it's a double strafe with the muni upgrade... strafe for 16.5 munitions!

If were done crapping on Vermillion, Coh3 implemented some stuff from Coh1 that was supposed to be better. This is something I have not seen discussed much but would be good fodder on this site.
vCOH MAP POINTS
We cant really talk about this change too much because 2v2 and up are dead. And I think this is where the change would really help. Is this change better in your opinions?
COMMANDERS/BATTLEGROUPS
This change was supposed to make the meta less predictable. For example "every player knows unit X will become available at Y minutes". Has this change helped? If not, is it because the choice tree is not designed well?
vCoh map points have allowed for different capping orders, especially with Wehrmacht and their Ket, since whether or not it is upgraded will not give you a bonus on a control point or VP. I think this allows for a more aggressive or unorthodox opening as best you can manage being down an aggressive unit while you muster munitions for the ket upgrade and back cap and fall into a more standard role with a beefed up economy. 2v2 and 3v3 can still deliver some sweaty games (more so 2v2) that are quite intense and go back and forth. Cutoff plays have always been hard in 2v2+ in any CoH IMO.
I think Commanders/BGS will become a more dominant factor when there aren't buffs radically changing units. We've had small and large balance passes over the course of the first few months which drastically changed openings (pathfinder changes including their grenades completely changed how MG42s were used) and med truck nerfs along with MG buffs (esp MG42) that completely changed how engagements rolled out. There seem to be quite a few different playstyles that can be executed though I only play a handful of matches a day so I can't personally say I know all of them.
I lean towards Luftwaffe/Airborne doctrines between Wehrmacht/USF because they give me a button that helps me when I forget to build an AT gun (way better for Airborne...) and/or skip tech. I think they're a bit more flexible when helping a mate that gets doubled. |
Hence my point about the online population dwindling to a small number of sycophants. I've had a lot of things said about me, but never that I'm uneducated.
If what I write is making you uncomfortable then you can always check out the official forums or the Discord server, I'm sure those will be more to your sensibilities.
Not a sycophant, I've never preached that they were perfect or that they were infallible. At what point have you seen me praise Relic? Just because you like to tout that you went to uni doesn't mean you were taught about everything, does it? Arrogance and learning don't exactly go hand in hand.
As Spitfire has said you're entitled to your opinion. AFAIK you've given it repeatedly. And like he said, it's odd that you spend so much time into something you don't actually own. So yes, you come off as uneducated about a specific thing. I'm sorry if you're perturbed about that. It's quite possible to be uneducated about many things.
If you want to give merit to your beliefs that you're affecting me in someway, or somehow, don't. I just come here as infrequently as you and see you bitching about the same shit month after month. Also, you aren't original, schadenfreude is just a word for misery loves company which just about everyone on the planet has already heard. |
It's hard to even get at the balance of the game when so many other aspects of it are broken. My impression seems to be that, with the veritable mountain of other issues aside, the game falls into the pretty standard RTS model of having only one or two viable strategies per faction - I'm sure the majority of people don't really care about this too much. Any RTS game (or competitive activity, for that matter) will have a meta, the nuance comes in how defined or restrictive that meta is. Company of Heroes 2 had major problems with this from its early days, but the community balance patches introduced an environment where you could get away with odd or unconventional strategies, and for the most part, you weren't restricted to a well-defined build order.
Company of Heroes 3, in this respect, is just plain boring. The reduction of individual squad modularity in favour of reintroducing global upgrades was a major step backwards, and combat overall feels very dull. The dust hasn't settled from release yet so there are still cases where an outlier unit is defining a faction's response to a number of threats and leading to scenarios where some units never see the light of day. No lessons were learned, apparently, nor was pre-release feedback taken into account.
The real reason, though, that I think these forums are somewhat dead is that the game is mostly dead. The release drove away a large portion of the long-time members of the community, and the continued poor quality of the patch efforts hasn't exactly encouraged others to stick around. It's very quickly dwindling to a small number of sycophants and a deluded few who think that Relic is going to pull a miracle out of their ass. I would love to be proven absolutely wrong, but I think that's just not going to happen. Either way, there's not really much to talk about, other than the fact that the game is circling the drain. Those watching a car crash don't usually have much to say in the moment either.
We get it. You don't like it. You've been going on about it for almost half a year.
Good grief man. Get over it. At this point despite some valid points that are painfully obvious, it's becoming quite clear that your many of your observations that you're throwing out are just uneducated blathering about something you clearly don't own.
I can't imagine if you did spend a dime. Everyone in a 100km radius around you would develop cancer. |
Wait what? I thought in CoH3 you can at least repair a damaged HQ if it's not fully destroyed
You can repair a damaged hq, this is true |
