It might be a corrupt replay you have thats causing this, I downloaded a bunch of replays from here and tested, it didnt break
It doesnt change anything important, just a bug fix on the replay manager
You are right. It looks like quite a few of the ones I downloaded are corrupt. I removed all of them and placed each one back into the playback folder with CELO open until it crashes. Is it possible for CELO to just state that the replay is corrupt without crashing? |
Thanks everyone. Feel free to add me on Steam if you don't mind playing with a newbie. |
That's quite a bit of experience. Rise of Nations takes me back. I remember waiting for the demo to finish downloading for about an entire day on my dial-up connection. Unfortunately, it wasn't until much later that I had a PC good enough to run it at decent FPS.
Back to Ardennes Assault though, do you know how decreases in Company Strength are calculated? I've been playing missions without losing any squads or vehicles, but I'm still losing much more strength than you. Do I really have to make sure that I lose only a few models as well? |
It could be the case that replay parser hasn't been updated since the latest "patch".
Ah, that makes sense. I reported the issue on the CELO GitHub page. Hopefully it still gets looked at every once in a while. |
I'm having an issue with the Replay Manager. Whenever I click on that, it says 'Parsing Replays Information' and then the loading bar and CELO freezes, giving me a message that it has stopped working. |
I'm playing through Ardennes Assault on hard as well. Man, I wish I was able to achieve even a fraction of the smoothness you demonstrated in your videos. I have a lot to learn. Did RTS games always come naturally to you? What's your secret? |
I'm confused. I thought CELO just generated scripts to be used in AHK. Shouldn't it all be the same in the end? |
Try playing 1v1 or find mates to play premade team games. This way only "nice persons" from the other side of barrier can annoy you
Yep, that's what I've been doing in CoH. None of my friends own CoH2 though. |
This is what put me off competitive play for a looooooooooong time. And yet, I find some inexplicable force pulling me in. I guess the thing to do is to find a smaller 'pond' of decent people to play with. I think that would mean no ranked matches though. |
Hello there. I stumbled upon this site while searching for a guide on single player achievements. I came to the CoH party somewhat late back in 2008 and I've been playing it on-and-off over the years. Despite being a grueling experience, I found myself playing through the campaigns multiple times on Expert difficulty while getting all of the medals. They just have a certain magic about them. I mean, they're Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers in RTS form, how cool is that?
It's only been this year that I seriously got into multiplayer (but limiting it to playing with offline friends at the moment). In the past, I tried a few online skirmishes before the move to Steam, but I'd always get so bitter about losing (without getting sweary of course). It's funny when I think about it now, but I remember saying to one guy before my HQ got taken out, 'Wow, you're mother must be very proud of you'.
It's been a long hiatus from CoH. My friends and I normally just play against the AI, but recently, we've been having 2 VS 1 matches, which are fun even though I never legitimately win (only one win and that was due to my friends using Panzer Elite for the first time). In a way, it's a big win for me to be a big pain in the arse and drag out a match for almost 2 hours. I guess it's like a more hardcore version of Operation Stonewall or DoWII's Last Stand mode. As you can see, I've got a lot to learn as I would think that experienced players would know how to end things quicker. If you thought that was insanely slow, you should check out our 5 hour 3 VS 3 match against the AI.
I was somewhat hesitant about getting CoH2 when it first came out. I think there was a lot of controversy, but I don't remember exactly what it was about. Maybe the commander system? Anyway, I guess spending time beating the original campaigns on Expert again made me curious so I got the Master Collection when it was on sale.
I went straight to General difficulty and I thought the Soviet campaign was pretty decent, despite coming across snippets from others saying otherwise. Now I'm onto Ardennes Assault on Hard difficulty and boy is it tough. I have yet to beat Elsenborn Ridge, but I'll say no more about that and leave it for another thread.
My plan is to go through Ardennes Assault and get all of the unlockables from that, beat the Theatre of War missions, then practise with the AI on some skirmish maps. None of my friends own CoH2 and probably never will since they don't really have proper gaming machines, so I'm thinking that I might try to find some 'tutors' or 'sparring partners' here a little bit down the track.
Maybe it's just me, but I find it more fun to play with people that I can get to know rather than toxic strangers in ranked matches. In my case, playing Real Time Strategies like CoH (or Real Time Tactics if you prefer to name them like me) is like playing a friendly game of badminton in a gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) club.
Nice to meet you all and I hope to play with and learn from this community when I finally get around to the multiplayer aspect of things. |
