Thread: Port of Hamburg15 Jul 2018, 04:48 AM CHANGES MADE BASED ON THREAD #4 1,2) Removed cargo containers and the military cart. 3) Removed wall section and replaced with green cover. This will help a lot. Before you could only push from south in the road where there is no cover. 4) Bricks removed. New look is pending... 5) Removed pipe sections to allow a new flank path in industrial area. 6) Removed a train section for late game pathing and HQ area. 7A) Adjusted/removed objects to clear area for HQs, trucks, ambulance etc. 7B) Removed fuel container and pipes to make room for HQs, trucks, ambulances etc. OKW truck or mortar pit will fit in paved area. this creates four quadrants to hide HQs. 8) NEW OPTIONAL ITEM There was a large fuel container that caused random/unreliable MG sight similar to the building we changed on Lienne Forrest. If the MG picks the left window it can see. If it picks the right window it cannot see. Replaced with piping and building damage. Building now has full sight. Road still has plenty of room for a KT. 9) NEW OPTIONAL ITEM The hedge by the broken brick wall needs to be moved back a couple meters so units can actually get to the wall for cover. Thread: Port of Hamburg15 Jul 2018, 04:23 AM Possible changes to the brick piles that cause sight block issues and the brown debri hills the game adds to the broken brick walls: OPTION 1: Make a little hill manually with brick texture and brick debris objects. Could look better with a little extra work. PROS: Looks ok. CONS: The hill is permanent and may look bad when the wall is gone. OPTION 2: Add wire and brick debri objects. OPTION 3 Do not have ANY broken walls. OPTION 4: Large brick debris object. PROS: Looks good. Is a medium crush object. OPTION 5: Use a stone debris object to recreate the broken brick section. OPTION 6: Use a brick debris VISUAL entity object to recreate the broken brick section. In: Summer patch 2018
Thread: Mapinformation for GCS213 Jul 2018, 19:01 PM I figured we needed a better visual: 1. Place units on side of hedge. Then make them the ENEMY. 2. Turn on the Fog Of War. Unit is hidden from MG. MG is not shooting. The unit FAILS the FOW terrain grid test (the FOW shadow drawn on the ground). 3. Bring a unit in to sight for the MG. The enemy now passes the FOW test. The enemy also passes the CUBE test since the hedges are high off the ground. The MG starts firing. You can see the MG firing into the dirt under the hedges. The enemy unit is pinned. Are these the hedgerows in question? These hedges are on a small hill. In the example below, the MG will not shoot at the INF on the other side of the hedges unless something gives them sight first. The MG initially uses the FOW grid to see objects. Once the FOW test is passed (something somewhere sees the units), the game will switch to TRUESIGHT and the MG will try to look thru the sight block cubes that surround all objects. The truesight calc may also incorporate a cube from the MG, to see if the MG cube can see the INF cube. If so, the hedge cube does not have to be too far off the ground before the MG can see right under it and start shooting. So the hill height needs to be reduced or the hedges need to be manually lowered. I just found this in a map I am making and said "where did I just read this...." This is probably not the issue since Mono posted about it ages ago. Just throwing it out there in case it helps get someone thinking. In: GCS Discussion
Thread: Lanzerath Ambush 4v412 Jul 2018, 16:41 PM Here are the approximate measurements to the East VP. As you can see the south is much further away. Distances for the four spawns that come to this point are shown. 1. The blue circle is close to the balanced point for each spawn. Arrows indicate the base. 2. The yellow circle is where I placed the VP, because that resulted in the least amount of change to the area. Just delete the trees and add four sight blockers. And it left each side with the a good amount of open territory for army setup. WEST VP DISTANCES The red square is close to balanced. Since there is not a dominant cover area and the VP position is not changed too much, I do not think it matters (ie No house on the V). Even with the new path thru the church area, it is not faster to go thru the new church opening for player #5. Player #6 gets 10m closer(Was 278, now 268). It is the rubble lump from the broken wall. Port of Hamburg has the same goofy lumps on the right side VP. All of the damage is applied to objects at the start of the game. We could change it from a BREAK in the wall to a passage and use columns at each end. In: Summer patch 2018
Thread: Lanzerath Ambush 4v412 Jul 2018, 14:07 PM The problem with this map is that the balanced point is where the new East VP is. Which used to be woods. So north / south each reach the woods at the same time. But north gets green cover and a VP while south gets a Munition. At this point, North digs in with MGs and it becomes a "who has the best mortar" match. It is also very far from the south, so if you pick mortars and the enemy goes heavy infantry, you get rekt and it is gg from then on. You can not ever come back. The West VP then decides who wins the game. It is less imbalanced so the North can win that point. The map needs to have BOTH VPS balanced. So moving the East VP is the only choice. If we do not move that VP, should we bother to change the map at all? In: Summer patch 2018

Rosbone Ambush The map still felt like the South East had little chance to get the East VP. The distances to important areas still favored the North. Likewise that last update made the West VP harder for the north to get. So there was balance in that each would get one VP. But it is very boring when you are in those positions, knowing you have little/no chance of contesting the point. 1. From post #1 you can see the idea of the East VP change. In addition to that I have adjusted a few things and cleared out new areas for parking OKW trucks, HQs, Ambulances, etc (Blue dash areas). 2. On the west side: A. Adjusted the wooden fence from last patch. Made it stone (green) for cover both into the VP area or into the church. B. Adjusted sight blockers by the church to involve the VP shed and church(RED). Road is still blocked to shed. C. Opened a new church wall opening to allow for better movement and get the timings closer to the VP for the north teams. South is still closer to the VP. D. Removed a sight blocker by church. The blocker helped reduce the strength of the church but made it impossible to completely kill everyone in the church. 3. Adjusted the territory layouts a little: (1) Clipped of a corner where USF could abuse vet 3 major. (2,3) For better Hq, Truck, Ambulance placement. While working I found a couple little bugs like: - Tractor by mid VP is floating about 1 meter off the ground. - Fence by south mid cutoff was not set to wall mode. - Minimap still had old building by west VP. The more eyes on a map the better. I am sure I created some floating objects with my new edits as well In: Summer patch 2018
Thread: (2) Nexus11 Jul 2018, 05:54 AM I have not played on the map but was curious how it compared to Crossroads which is such a fun map to play. I am not saying make crossroads 2 in this post CROSSROADS Crossroads has two great things that I think make it perfect to play on: 1. Just the right amount of sight blockers placed in locations that allow you to make aggressive moves. You can push up to a line of blockers and look around. Then push if it is safe. You can also really push hard and overextend, to some degree, because there are enough blockers that you can move behind one and escape. 2. There are more points than normal. The cool part about this game is feeling like you are doing something. That is the main tactile feedback that you are making things happen. So every push is rewarded with an immediate new point taken. And since there are more points, the next point is always near by and the point after that is near by. So you are not locked into going in one direction. This lets you adjust your strategy on the fly. If you planned to go left and then run into an overpowering force just turn right instead and cap that direction. On large maps with poor layouts you have to engage, retreat, or walk the 45 seconds to the next point. That whole 45 seconds you are falling behind on teching and panic sets in. You never feel like you are accomplishing anything and have limited options. NEXUS FEEL I think Blvckdream was feeling how empty the center of the map is (pink areas). That in combination with the munition being way out of the way. With the points being all pushed out to the corners the map feels very large. Units are walking for long periods of time before they are actually "doing" anything. So players may miss that feeling of accomplishment. Since the points are pushed so far out, you have to go ALL-OR-NOTHING to one side and hope you do well. If you do not do well, you will retreat and then be way behind on teching. And then hope you do not smash your head on the next side because it will be gg if you do. Crossroads always feels like you can cap enough to come back. It is never all or nothing. NEXUS MAP CONCERNS I do not play 1v1 much, but the buildings around the fuels could be cause for concern. Hard to say if a top level player would camp a house with an MG. Seems like a waste of resources at that level. Having 6 points on the EAST side and offsetting it with the fuel more on the WEST side could be an issue for some. Just my quick thoughts. Hope that made some sense and hope it helps get us another great 1v1 map! Oh, and Luciano likes trains. In: Map Sharing

Thread: Lienne Forrest9 Jul 2018, 23:02 PM Rosbone Forrest Version 1.1 (7/9/2018): 1. Added additional sight blockers by fuel buildings for flanking (Blue). 2. Added box crates by sight blockers to help keep units out of sight by pulling them to the cover object (Pink). North and south have crates in the middle of the sight blocker to keep unit spacing from spreading out and being suppressed. 3. Added two more fence breaks by south fuel. One for north to attack through. One to reach the new sight block without being seen (Yellow Dots). In: Summer patch 2018
