The p4 main gun actually has a non insignificant advantage (well, if I wasn't being conservative, id say it has a significant in advantage) in kill radius. Each of the p4's machine guns is also much better (60%? or so) than the cromwell's, in addition to having the option to upgrade a pintle machine gun the cromwell does not have access to entirely. Pretty much this. I was trying to be as moderate as possible in statement, and I was too lazy to go figure out hull mg dps's, but the ost p4s main advantage that I was trying to point out was the pintle (which, sure, isn't free but it exists, and exists to be used. Cromwell doesn't even get that option). Apparently its hull mgs are also significantly better than the cromwell's. That and a better kill radius, which is as Jae said an objective, concrete statistic. It's the radius that a tank shell can kill a full health infantry model. So there's your answer I guess. And if you're trying to say Ost p4 has more scatter, then how come OKW p4 has less scatter and does noticeably better against inf. "Kill radius" isn't even a statistic. Allied infantry aren't afraid of an Ost p4 because they know it can't hit a single model most of the time. Cromwell has a slightly smaller AOE but somehow it just snipes models a bit better than the ost p4 somehow. There's no basis in fact for this though. In reality, it's really the opposite. The p4 has a better kill radius against infantry and thus will "snipe" models more often than the Cromwell The only significant advantage the cromwell has is (significantly) better far damage (but not AoE) and that has nothing to do with sniping models. It'll damage models at the edge of the blast much more than the p4, but the blast radius is smaller and kill radius is smaller. In: COH2 Gameplay

You'd be better off with a mortar, or a mortar HT. It's a budget Brummbar that dies to a stiff breeze. For 70 fuel it should - and does - preform acceptably against infantry. It's actually pretty hard to kill if you're microing/supporting it well. It's a non-frontline unit that can survive 2 hits and gets smoke at vet1. Easy to lose if you aren't paying attention but that's the price you pay for it being fast and powerful (and for being a US vehicle lol). That being said I would say its overall fine. You sacrifice at capability in your armor if you make them, just like the brummbar or stug e, and so it gets to be really good at its job, just like the brummbar or stug e. And it really isn't at all comparable to rocket arty. It has to continuously be using its auto attack to be efficient and the barrage is really a secondary thing IMO, so that's why it gets more health I guess. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Sniper or mortar?3 Mar 2019, 22:47 PM I usually go with mg and then 3 grens as ostheer but then I usually want to get either a sniper or a mortar right after (I’ll occasionally skip both in certain situations). At present pretty much the only big deciding factors for me are whether or not I feel like I need a countersniper (so I build a sniper) or if he’s usf and has gone LT (because then I avoid building a sniper because the M20 scares the hell out of me if I have a sniper on the field). Just wanted to get some opinions and different takes on which one is better or in which situations to use them or whatever. In: Ostheer Strategies

Only an extremely biased person would think otherwise. I bet u didn't know there's a noticeable difference between the OKW and Ost p4 AI capabilities. Yeah they're remarkably samey. P4 has slightly better kill radius (80 dmg radius) and better AoE radiuses but crom has better AoE far damage. Pretty samey reloads too. Although the one thing p4 definitely has over crom is that it has the pintle 42. I've noticed time and time again the okw p4 is way better at killing infantry. Regularly snipes models on the move lol. Don't make assumptions I guess. In: COH2 Gameplay

It's just as shit as the cromwell's AI. You can actually 1v1 an Ost p4 if you pick your engagement so that you're at most fighting at midrange (or closer). Sherman and p4 actually have around the same chance the penetrate each other. Sherman has more pen to fight the more armor of p4 and p4 has less pen to fight the lesser armored sherman. You obviously haven't ever tried to kill infantry with the cromwell lmao. In: COH2 Gameplay

Against IR pathfinders: only get 1 scoped rifle and 3 elite carbines, so they become dangerous at all ranges. Fight defensively around cover, use your hmg more agressively, upgrade lmg's and tech light vehicles. Keep in mind that they get commando camouflage and extra range with vet, so be careful if you plan on going sniper. Move team weapons ASAP if you see the IR arty smoke. You can't wait to listen if it's a decoy or real barrage, because it's already too late to pack up once you hear the shells. +1 I'm not 100% sure about this but I thought they only got the ambush camo type camo with vet, as opposed to commando camo which gives them 3 seconds of camo after they step out of cover (same as snipers). Paths have the kind that lets them move around when they're in cover and they'll still be camo'd but as soon as a majority of the squad steps out of cover the camo is off with vet, and at vet0, they just camo when stationary in cover. Correct me if I'm wrong though. That being said sniper is my go to counter to paths but paths are usf's best infantry counter to snipers XD I've killed a few using paths myself. In: Ostheer Strategies
