I would absolutely love that. It'd give REs an actual role besides being bazooka toters/mine sweepers, fix the issue of garrison clearing, and make it so the player has to choose how to delegate their RE's roles (and possibly build more) all at the same time.
Edit: I'm curious as to how you would want infantry smoke to work (as in only on rifles, only on officers, only on REs, officers and REs, etc.) if REs were given smoke, because I'm not sure how I'd approach that, but I think my vote is probably with sticking to having it on rifles.
It might make a dual rifle and duel RE build seen often in maps with important houses to take or destroy. |

Recon passes technically work, but the cooldown means that, in practice, they don't actually do anything about the problem he stated. Recon passes are used to see enemy troop movements and positioning or to scout positions before an assault; seeing a raketen for 3 seconds every (not exactly sure on the cooldown) 40-60 seconds doesn't really help much. This is only made worse by the fact that its a pretty costly ability for what it is (60 munitions iirc, maybe even 45 or 30?) in a munitions reliant faction.
As for Recon loiters, none of the top tier doctrines have them. USF crutches pretty hard on armor company, so taking something with a recon loiter is essentially already a disadvantage (though I do think tactical support is underused and underrated). Add to the fact that okw has free AA with other good AA options and recon loiters are less effective than one would hope. They do work though.
Main conclusion: You're not wrong, but you havent really addressed or countered his point either
Pretty sure Major Recon is 50 munitions, so it's still pricey enough you don't want to spam it, even with the additional plane you get like 5 seconds of vision at most. |
Thanks for bringing this poll to my attention Mr. Smith, I voted for live version because I feel the patch is big enough for this rather massive change to hit live, maybe in the future the issue with Riflemen overshadowing USF Elites can be fixed in a better manner. |
+1. This is indeed a good idea. I'd suggest one change though. Instead of demolition charge give rangers sticky bombs (coh1 hype).

Good lordy, please remove Sprint from Snipers and Weapons teams. They should not be able to have such mobility. It was tolerable in Encirclement because that commander overall sucked, but on Jaeger infantry it is very abusable as the commander has lots of other great things going for it.
The PGren Command Squad seems way OP, against Brits in particular, being able to sprint through smoke up to LMG tommies is crazy good.
I can't wait for that Sprinting Sniper reminding me USF best counter to it is the overpriced M20. |
Pak40 is the best in the game, especially when it has vet.
Realistically, it would be nice if the pupchen shells didn't collide with terrain. I'd gladly trade that for having it be immobile when cloaked. All AT guns should be immobile when cloaked, even the Soviet ones (not that Soviet players use them the same way as OKW).
They would use it more if the ZiS didnd't suffer from further slow down through craters, like the American M1 does, you might as well be moving at negative speed at that point. |
If OKW got a Pak40, it'd likely be a LeFH situation where the same vet bonuses are spread across 5.
I, quite frankly, don't see it happening though. It'd give OKW a better foundation for potential balancing efforts, but still. Unlikely IMO.

Some of us would even take a Pak40 with no target weakpoint over the pupchen. Nothing more infuriating than seeing a tank make it out of a fight with a sliver of health because the pupchen did its special version of attack ground three times in a row.
You say that as if the Pak40 was a weak ATG... Now give it Vet5 welp. |
