I worded it wrong, it's relevant as a mechanic as it is in the game as well as it was historically used. It's not as relevant in a gameplay perspective (from my point of view) due to most things in this game being balanced with historical accuracy disregarded. In: COH2 Balance

Check out the picture below in Band of Brothers where it is being used: Also, British tanks have doctrinal smoke as well, so your assertion axis are the only one with defensive smoke is incorrect. One last thing. Shermans did indeed have White Phosphorus rounds. One of the uses of this was to shoot it directly on to German tanks where it stuck and burned for several minutes obscuring the vision of its crew (essentially blinding them) until the German tank could be dealt with. Would be a cool ability actually. It's awesome, but arguably not very relevant for a Coh2 balance forum In: COH2 Balance

It seems to be way to easy to hit small vehicles at max range while a-moving around. The thing is that it would be a massive nerf for both axis factions, which they don't need atm, and other AT options would need appropiate buffs. So I don't see that happening in the near future (or at all). In: COH2 Balance
