In a bunker in Berlin:
Ami Polizei Funk: "Good Lord, Ipkai! You never told me about these other Heer tanks! What the Hell is going on?"
Ipkai (smirking): "Well, it's easy really. If we take Tank Hunter units, for example, then we discover that...."
APF (strenuously):"NO,Ipkai! If there is no Shermie there, I am not interested"
Ipkai (softly): "Look Ami! You cannot play all 4 armies with reference to Shermans"
Ami (belligerently): "You wanna bet, Ipkai? ~I see Shermies everywhere. With the Soviets, and now (voice lowered- sycophantically) with the USA. In my book,a Kubelwagen is a 10% Shermie....a FlakPanzer Wagen is a 50% Shermie and... "
Ipkai(irreverently): "Sorry to interrupt. Ami, but the Shermans are still Ronsons against the Panzer fleet"
Ami (haughtily): "How very unAmerican of you, Ipkai" |
I cannot understand why Relic permitted the Opel crush to progress to the game. I know many pointed out the results of this crazy, early exploit, but it still obtains.
Coupled with Kubelwagens and Fallschirmjaegers, where do Relic think they are going with this? This is only vs standard UI - but I have a point to make, and my micro is cr@p. So a better player will win faster against the UI - and still win against a harder AI
My point is that these trucks are an exploit which need to be nerfed. |
Such awesome work, Ohme! I learned a ton while reading/editing this guide. It's very well written and the short coh2.org tips from you and Marcus are ace.
It is well written. We will be marking you on your next cast ! |
IpKai is up a mountain in Wales, wearing his Tesco fleece, sweating. In a good way.
Ami: "Ipkai! Get down off that freaking mountain of yours! I need help right now with the OKW stats. "
Ipkai: "Ami!It's quite easy really. OKW have 5 levels of veterancy, and so I shall start by telling you how these apply to each OKW infantry unit....."
half an hour later.............
Ami:"You cannot do this to me, Ipkai. QD told me there are stories to be to be told. Good Grief! How can I tell their stories, without taking a masters in calculus?
Ipkai (smirking): it's quite easy really. BTW, do you like my Tescos fleece?
Ami:" Oh nooooeees....I just need observer mode, vet 3 Rifles, and Inverse, and I am good to go"
Inverse: " click.. click.. click... click...click....(croaky voice).......you were sayin', Ami?"
((((SPLASH))) Ami throws himself into the Berlin lido...........

In the COH.org inner portals, Ami strolls around looking mystified:
" My Good Lord! Ipkai! Marco! What the hell is going on? Surely they could not have messed up the release date by 24 hours?"
Ipkai (soothingly) : " Time zones can mess up people's heads, Ami. Can I prescribe you some mogadon?"
Ami" Hell no, Ipkai! Benzedrine is what I need right now. The expansion is coming out 24 hours too soon, and I need to learn the Unit abilities for OKW"
,,,,,,,,,,,meanwhile in Relic HQ, a stout figure in a Reindeer cardigan, sweating profusely is on the blower to QD
Noun: "Chief! Please, I beg you, put the release on hold for 24 hours, otherwise I can never live this one down with van Dittmars.....Oh! and Brad! Go get yourself a haircut! We're on in less than an hour"
QD (feeling Eisenhower-ish): " Why the hype,Simpson? I have made the decision to launch. We go right now! If you cannot tell the time, it is your problem. I am excited for this release. Oh! And tell Braden Chan to get his bloody hair cut!It is so long, I could be standing on it"

Still going in circles, you can join the military for the money. Even if you take your oath very seriously and are loyal to your country, not very many people would have taken the contract if it was a non paying job. If this entire time you have been defining a mercenary as "A person primarily concerned with material reward at the expense of ethics" which is the very vague usage of the word and can be applied to someone of any profession, then technically you could be right, if you honestly believe no security contractors have any ethics. But according to usage which refers specifically to hired guns, you're wrong.
I think you may be wandering into murky waters.....
A mercenary is a hired gun who fights for money as his reward, irrespective of the cause. On that, I hope we can agree?
So,were the Mexicans mercenaries, who fought for the US in Fallujah, in the hopes of surviving and obtaining US citizenship and/or a sponsored college education?
Is the French Foreign Legion a band of mercenaries?
Are Commonwealth troops mercenaries, who are attached to UK regiments?
Were UK SAS troopers mercenaries, who were attached to the Australian SAS in order to to fight in Vietnam, when the British Army did not deploy there?
Are private contractors from USA or UK mercenaries, if they leave the army and then go back to fight alongside their former comrades?
I would say they were all mercenaries, but it is not clear cut

It's a bloody shame, it really is.
Yes, it is a great shame that Relic cannot apparently be bigger at times, but I guess they have been tested/seared over the past 12 + months, and the ominous words, "that shitty little company",(not said by Ami, but by one of his friends, when in drink and then broadcast), undoubtedly reverberated and stuck in the mind of the powers-that-be. You have to be big to ignore such jibes, especially in adversity, but we are all human. I mean, that particular, highly unfortunate set of observations could have meant jobs on the line at Relic.....
"Never glad confident morning again...." springs to mind.
Let's hope not.I think there can be redemption, but Relic will undoubtedly make Ami jump through the hoop, even though they were not his words. If we as a large group support Ami and his lieutenants like Ipkai and Marco on SNF, I am tolerably certain that at some stage, the ice may thaw. |
Actually not the same people at all. To set the record straight, coh2.org handpicked experts from the original game to provide private feedback for COH2 before it was launched, over a year ago. That same group (with some additions along the way) continued to give feedback throughout the initial patches and during SNF S5. That same group became so frustrated when Elite Troops and Soviet Windustry Pay 2 Win commanders were dumped into the game (the problematic commander DLC business model was one of our core complaints from the very start) that the relationship between that group and Relic degraded entirely. Relic then abandoned that group, and selected entirely different people to test the Alpha for WFA.
I probably shouldn't bother recounting all this, but I don't like to see wrong information spread about on this point.
I fully respect your evident transparency here,Ami. And so I am not going into detail, but...irrespective of how talented the chosen Pros may have been, it was not their game which they personally funded, it was Relic's amd Sega's. And it was always clear(to me,at least) that Relic were not in the business of promoting pros at that stage: what they were after (rightly or wrongly) was income and numbers. So for an elitist self-regarding consumer group to (once again) set up their stall and be demanding was,at the very least, naif....though others may say supinely arrogant
Relic appear to have succeeded on the income target, by all accounts, but their player base did seem to start to shrivel bcs of the various problems:the Russian mafia, the Commander hiatus, and perhaps most importantly, the evident lack of micro requirements in early/mid game which was missing until the pre Xmas patch.
Since when, ofc, the game has altered radically.
As for a degrading relationship with Relic, (especially considering the amazing generosity of the Relic hosting exercise in Vancouver), I would say many of the pros who felt they could take the cookies, then cut and run, have a hell of a lot to learn about loyalty, respect and commercial life. You have to take the rough with the smooth: I am certain you know that - it is a lesson you need to inpress upon the others.

There is Truck, King Truck, Band of Trucks, Truck Ace, Fallshrimmtruck, For the FatherTruck in Truckwaffe doctrine. Only $1.99.
Now, where did you gain your inspiration for this, I wonder? |
tbh im quite patinet with everything bad about coh2: balance issues, dlc, no observer/modding, etc
but the one thing that will make me abandon it for sure, would be mirror matches in automatch. seriously...
I'm with you on this - as I suspect many on here are. But many e-sporters seem to covet the idea. |
