There has been plenty of topics, mostly about "balancing", and not directly about the perceived balance due imbalance by rank distribution.
Nevertheless, known problem for quite some time.
MM doesn't work properly at times with low player count, and completely over extends it's search.

Thanks. Your final point is correct, however usually a person with a high rank knows better than to endlessly throw a blob and a flack truck to be pinned for the 8th time.
The player count hasn't been massive for ages and yet they still managed to match up players of a similar rank, at least not complete new players. I used to wait 1-7mins for games, no I'm in one within a minute 90% of times. It needs fixed. It's worse than the opel truck bullshit they let happen for nearly a year. |
Ever since the last patch, in 4v4 I've been matched with new players. Sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes 3. The same goes for the enemy team. I've also seen a total of 8 veterancy stars on my team matched up against 4 completely new players.
What is going on? Unit balance has never been Relic's strong point, but matching up players with some semblance of similar skill was something they kind of managed.
It's getting very tiresome telling noobs not to stand in incendiary flames or not to charge a flak truck with all their men in a massive blob for the eighth time (true story)
Why are new players not being matched with other new players? In the last game I had their entire team were under level 50, two of my team were under level 50. Leaving me and another veteran player. Was it really so tough to find another 2 noobs to match the rest up with? What's going on? The game is becoming unplayable due to having team-mates who have NO IDEA what they're doing. It's no fun for me, and it's no fun for them whilst they're getting hammered by a veteran of 500 games. They should be playing other new players learning at the same time.
Am I the only one? I haven't seen other threads.

Last game I had I had a KT in my sights, and the direct fire refused to even accept the order. It just did nothing.
The same has happened in 2 games now, the direct fire just doesn't even accept orders, so it doesnt even shoot the target at all.
The unit already got nerfed into the ground and now one of it's vet abilities which actually makes it useful doesn't even work?

You have 3/4 vetted squads shooting an AT gun...the squad/gun SHOULD DIE.
You have 4 triple vetted squads shooting a panther with 40% hp left....The panther SHOULD die to your dedicated vetted AT squads.
What would happen if that was a t34 vs 4 vetted shrek squads.....it could be full hp and it would die 3 times over.
You have 4 triple vetted squads, 24 men shooting 4 Obers. The obers SHOULD die in that situation. 24 vs 4.
Anti tank airstrikes doing damage to trucks and tanks....that SHOULD happen.
As I always say in these ridiculous threads....do you want to swap your shreks for our PTRS'? No, I thought not. |
Let's not forget how stupidly quickly Sturms can repair aswell, so you might be hitting it with one At gun, but one sturm squad will almost keep up with the damage it's doing. Giving the OKW player plenty of time to come over and annihilate the AT gun. |
I agreed with you up the point about the B4.. have you never used one? They are currently the meta for 4v4 as Soviets.. Once it gets vet1 precision strike just make their blob retreat and hit their med-base and GG everything is dead.. its also good at 1 shotting tanks when they are stationary (spot it with a sniper)
I used it for 7 or 8 games, it did OK, but I found that we missed shocks and IS2.
I haven't seen one in the last 20 games or more I've played.
Even still, that's ONE off my list. The rest are either utterly useless or just mostly useless. Depressing. |
The game really is unplayable as Allies in 4v4 now. The inevitable Kubel on the fuel and the Vet 5 volks blobs with vetted Obers thrown in for comedy value. The only real counter to it is a demo charge and HOPE they wander over it.
Why not swap the shrek for the PTRS? That would solve this problem in a heartbeat, because the PTRS is fucking garbage.
Depressingly as Soviet I HAVE to choose IS2's or double T34-85's if I want even a shred of a chance late game vs Panthers, KT's, Tigers, Tiger Ace et al. By which point the unkillable Panthers from midgame will be vet 2 or 3 and just laugh at your ZIS'.
There are so many Soviet units that I NEVER see in 4v4's because they're so completely useless, it really is a joke.
Things you hardly ever see:
Penals - flame is nice, satchel is nice. Going to get ripped apart midgame.
Katyusha - Very meh. Sacrificing all important fuel for an anti blob unit that will kill maybe 3 or 4 in the blob if im lucky.
SU-85's - Should see them more often as they're not awful, but the shrek blobs laugh at SU85's and their hilarious speed.
Guards rifles - This almost made it into the 'NEVER see' section because they're so awful no one uses them. The PTRS is a joke. Won't even kill a half track before the half track realises and hits retreat. Scratches the paintwork of a p4, 10 squads will do nothing to a Panther or above. Button USED to be useful before it was nerfed into oblivion. Garbage against infantry. All round terrible unit. This is our AT infantry vs Volk shreks that vet to 5 in no time? Fantastic.
Things you NEVER see:
ML-20 - nothing needed to say really, garbage.
B4 - had like a week where it was used, never see it any more. (Was it nerfed?)
KV1 - Why would anyone build this piece of shit? Absolutely useless. A joke of a tank
KV2 - Possible for potential. Reality is it's useless against the speedy Axis tanks.
M42 - Might scare off a half track. Aint doing shit to a p4, Panther will think it's been hit by a fly.
KV8 - Wouldn't THIS be the perfect tool against the blobs? Oh wait, it was NERFED INTO THE GROUND. It's a 9 command point tank with a signoificant costr behind it this SHOULD be death against infantry, this is literally it's main purpose. Last time I used one it almost lost a 1v1 fight against a double vetted pio squad with a shrek. That's depressing.
T-70 - This has nothing on the luchs. And even if it did, so what? It has around a 2min window if you rush it to deal some damage before the shreks come out, one shrek squad is enough to make this thing whimper for cover.
Partisans - LOL. I swear any axis unit can simply give the partisans a glare and they'll keel over and die whilst THROWING their weapons at the enemy.
ISU - Our one unit that battered blobs and tanks. Funny how the volks blob only became a big problem once the ISU was nerfed. Never see it anymore, slow reload, slow tank means volk blob will annihilate this. Don't remember the last time I saw one is a 4v4. A long time ago.
Even shocks are a bit crap these days, sure they're nice when you can sneak round the back of a weapons team, but it sure isn't getting close to a blob to do any damage before it's obliterated.

In terms of 3v3 and 4v4, the ISU has been overnerfed, you never see it anymore. The IS2 is necessary pretty much, if you don't have them you're never going to win any game that goes longer than 20m. The Super heavy spam will just crush you. The IS2 is bad enough for not hitting things and the incredibly low turret rotation speed. What it really needs is PRIORITZE VEHICLE - The amount of times im chasing a near dead tank down with my IS2 and it decides to turn it's turret towards some engineers or whatever pains me.

The key here is not just maxim spam, support weapon spam. If your enemy has an AT gun or 2 your Luch is going to be much less effective. If the ISG wasn't shit and OKW had more than just the Stuka to stop support weapon blobs then a nerf to the Stuka would be fine.
I hate the maxim spam thing. 'Spam' because I have to build 2 maxims at least to cover the same area one mg42 will do. |
