Good for new units: not so helpful for infantry that need to walk all the way back. How about each faction is able to make a cheap truck 10 minutes into the game (only for these maps) German factions covered opels, USF duece and a half, Soviets ZiS-5, all which CANT reinforce (meant for ferrying) and can hold two squads (campaign covered opel carries 5 squads for spawning event purposes).
Obviously they are very fragile (sneaky mines will cause migraines as squads inside get killed), so in a sense, you actually have to keep units back to guard a supply line and watch your back.
The trucks are great and I feel they would work quite well. However will they be affected by deep snow and mud?
Oh! You gave me another idea. Why not add much larger transportation like the trains? There are a few maps where there are train tracks but the trains are stationary. Trains played a role in transporting troops before, so why not in the game as well?
My apologies, I didn't know you have made a separate thread. The replacement unit sounds superb, but seems to be against the design of how the Soviet play style currently is. Elite units with high tier equipment seems to be on German turf. Then again, I feel this could be added in a second Soviet faction that could be more elite unit based.
Another thought. I've seen a few custom maps where there are some points you can capture so that new units will show up there instead of all the way from the base. Would you think that is a good thing to add to super large maps? Reinforcing would be easier and it can easily be a decent point that both sides would try to fight for. However, it might mean whichever side gets it first would win in a landslide because of much faster reinforcement.
There are also outpost points that act as providing a huge vision of the map. Do you think that could also be implemented? This would make tracking and planning strategies much easier.
German paratroopers have very heavy damage at any range, they kill faster than they inflict damage.
Example of the Alpha:
3 squad of paratroopers come, punish all life, one unit still takes damage (he retreats), and in its place will appear momentarily other paratroopers.
Yes they are expensive, but the Germans have no shortage of manpower.
I see. You have mentioned that Partisan should be replaced. Would you want them to follow similar guidelines of the German Paratroopers? I feel that would harm the authenticity of the game as well as the concept of ambush units. From what I know, they are solely designed for units that can't properly retaliate, which is why any other infantry can kill them. Regardless, I understand your point you are trying to make now. Thank you for your reply.
This does sound like a good idea.
But I have a few questions I hope you can answer.
1) Super large map with strapped resources do mean players have to be more careful. But won't it be difficult to set up a defensive line?
2) This seems to be in favor of mobile troops, considering flanking would be much more easier. Would you think so?
3) Other than defensive tactics, won't artillery units be at a severe disadvantage because it can't cover as much ground as it usually can?
4) Strapped and limited resource means less units, which seems slightly in favour of German forces since they are much more hardier and can last longer without needing constant reinforcement (medpacks, front line outposts). What advantages would the Soviet players have?
German paratroopers - emerge from an empty building, very strong infantry, we will still see spam paratroopers (I've seen in alpha). German paratroopers - the basic unit
partisans - emerge from an empty building, the last time I saw partisans when released their commander, die from one look at them, they are just annoying like flies. partisans - Flash support and suicide
You are still being very vague and brief. Though this time you seem to be implying that they are under-powered and die off very quickly. If that is so, then please state it more clearly. Also, Partisan only die very quickly if they are placed in the wrong place at the wrong time. What is Flash Support by the way?
On regards of German Paratroopers, what exactly makes them strong? Health? Damage? A good balance of both? What do you mean by "basic unit"?
A big thank you for everyone who contributed to the discussion. Especially on regards of the Partisan upgrade mistake that the devs have possibly made. I feel it is true that after the upgrade they are significantly tougher. Though it would make me wince a bit if they completely removed the upgrade. Tweaking it back to the intended amount should be fine.
Partisans - disgusting, I have repeatedly said it will speak.
The output from the Western Front it will be even more pronounced:
Partisans perform one role with German paratroopers
German paratroopers - just wonderful
Partisans - Lord ... they are disgusting. Replace it.
If it is alright, could you elaborate on what is exactly disgusting about it? The word is rather vague and ambiguous. I'm trying to absorb your knowledge, but I need more details. What exactly makes Partisans disgusting? What makes German paratroopers superior?
