I think Relic really over complicated MG42 and Maxim by adding weird additional things like how many models the MG42 is firing at for determining its DPS and iirc, suppression rate + all kinds of range related complications.
Add to that reload timers, burst durations, complicated cover modifiers, DPS per burst and who knows what all else.
Its just a mess really. Makes it hard even for stat wizards to figure what is causing what, under what circumstances, and what effect changing one stat will have in relstion the enormous amount of other HMG specific mountain of stats there are + environmental and situational effects like cover, range, number of targets etc.
Meh...
As to Rnade and Molotov, I think both are in a reasonablem place atm. Sov teams can reasonably soak RNades thanks to unit size and dispersal, and Molotov still has its concrete area denial and crit rate if you can get close enough to apply it. Costs can be argued, but I think that is more a meta thing. Effect vs garrisons was a big problem, but building structure changes and aoe effects have largely corrected those.
I think part of Voltdarks and his crews issue with RNades, is actually a result of the rather necessary Gren heavy builds Ost invariably fields. Its somewhat ironic that Grens can infact counter their own counter (ie: maxims) at range with RNades, but that ultimately rests in the simple cold hard fact that Ost generally does not have any other infantry options to field except some specialised Doctrine callins.
Youll just have to get used to the fact, that Grens will cause some attrition on your Maxims. The price of war, so to speak. But instead of focusing on that as a negative, focus insyead on the fact that Ost is pumping Munitions into that for the exchange, and thereby limiting his other options. One Gren, with its Rnade, is not sufficient to reduce the Maxim to combat ineffectiveness. Even two will still leave a significant margin of Maxim effectiveness. So far, that is still cost efficient imo. If there are more Grens than that, then you will ofc need support, but you can feel "ok" about it because opponent will have dumped 3xRNade munitions into that engagement alone, for a MP drain on you that is not really that bad in comparison, providing you manage to pull the Maxim out before wiping. And, as others have pointed out, do not forget Merge. You can keep the Maxim on the field and fighting, again, as a function of you paying moderate MP as opposed to Ost paying Munitions at a higher equivalency. |
LeYawn, yes that is a fair description of what it does.
But doesnt answer how to tweak it so that the little something stinky about it is brought inline.
I think Relics changes have been good overall, such as the 50%attrition chance on destruction, and the stat relation especially to its distaff cousin, the 221 (though the 50cal may still need just a small touch). Costs have also been shaved in both directions in different patches. Yet still somehow somekind of niggling sense of a small imbalance persists about the whole affair.
What do you think of my suggestion to an immediate stop effect from Faust/ATNade that I editted into my post above? Would increase risk of maneuver/positioning a bit, and since the change works vs both 221 and M3, the advantage would be shared fairly by both factions. |
Clowncar. Persistent thorn in the side of balance since forever.
Its been discussed many hundreds of times but still somehow manages to elude a unilateral solution.
Sort of quite an achievement really, and paradoxically speaks in favor of it actually being quite balanced, despite something smelling funny about it. Just can never quite seem to put your finger on what is causing it.
I think perhaps indirectly, one cause may be the inbuilt delay on Faust/ATNade effects on especially light vehicles with high speeds. Often, by the time the projectile hits, the vehicle is already well in retreat, and continues to roll at high speed despite being hit.
Perhaps change Faust/ATNades hit to cause an immediate de-acceleration on the vehicles? So it sort of "stops dead in its tracks" when hit, and has to reaccelerate at the reduced speed after the hit, from 0.
Sort of doesnt reflect the inertia it has IRL, but then again neither does Fausts/ATNades magically hitting their targets though they move out of range during the cast timers.
Result would make it easier to follow up on the light vehicle to finish it off, increasing their risk of close and open maneuvers a bit. |
When you issue a retreat order, if the MG42 gunner is killed, it teleports to another crew member. When a soviet support weapon gunner is killed, another crew member has to run into the weapon. Combine that with high DPS, and your chances of wiping, even with a quick retreat are high (if the german know what he is doing).
And this is different from MG crew roasting in a Molotov how, exactly?
Infact the RNade trajectory time is so long, that you can just about de-setup the Maxim before it even hits. |
True but your not taking into account its no longer one unit in price nor performance. If this is included now you have a unit that costs much much more than the 221/222
I understand your point, but prefer to see it as you having actually two units which together synergise to a better performance than either part individually.
In that sense, there is no greater cost. You get exactly what you pay for as two units + their synergistic benefit essentially for "free". |
I see.
Well, haters gonna hate.
Back to topic, anyone got the lowdown on some pulled WF trailer or something?
Saw something flash past about that in the Shoutbox. |
Tbh I only very rarely see any vCoH references here on these boards, much less complaints that "why isn't coh2 like vCoH"
Some people occasionally wax nostalgic or bring up a specific comparison between the two in a (misguided) attempt to illustrate a point they might be making. But its benign, and just an attempt to communicate in a context they are familiar with. Thats it really though.
Dunno what the fuss is about. |
It also has no turret.
Just pointing out that it does infact not need one, since the infantry occupying it have omnidirectional fire lines. |
5%. I've been unlucky as hell then.
Good thing I don't gamble. |
you have a set % chance to stay at 5%hp and receive either destroyed engine critical or destroyed main gun critical.
Anyone know this set % specifically?
Would be good to know when positioning/considering that 2nd Faust. |
