Game as Ostheer versus the US forces. |
What are people's experiences with them post-patch? I've only faced a Soviet player thus far. |
- More 1v1 maps, both Western and Eastern front. A winter map or two (I actually like them).
- Some work on load times.
- Ability to set up tournaments, rankings, etc., in game. |
I see where you're coming from. I feel there's an overabundance of armour on the field in CoH2, but at the same time, I find my vehicles die quite quickly when confronted with a Pak or ZiS. |
I don't see how you can flank them because they can just suppress the other squad too.
I honestly haven't noticed a Rear Echelon squad suppress another squad yet when it's coming in from the side or rear and the Rear Echelons are already volley firing against someone else. Lucky RNG, perhaps. I have noticed it when another unit is coming in to join the fray from the front, though. |
I've played in a bunch of 1v1 matches as the Ostheer versus US forces now (everyone seems to be playing the US), and I've only begun to win engagements after a lengthy losing streak.
I like to open with an Assault Grenadier, followed by a Grenadier, then an MG42. The Assault Grenadier and Grenadier support one another in the early game, with the MG42 always being close by for when it's needed. The Grenadier caps, the Assault Grenadier hangs back, and when a Rifleman or two closes in, I rush in on the flank with the Assault Grenadier and pin them if necessary with the MG42.
I'm not the greatest player, but I've felt like playing early game versus the US forces as Ostheer requires so much more attention and combined arms tactics than against the Soviets. That's not really a bad thing, it just makes for some really tough matches (at least for me).
Edit: I forgot to add that the Assault Grenadier eats up any volley firing Rear Echelons, as they're usually focused on the Grenadier. |
All I know is it isn't nearly as difficult as it was pre-expansion.
Also, I don't think the AI reinforces units while on easy. |
I hated it at first, and I still think it's a little too fast acting, but when I see an unsupported Rear Echlon unit use volley fire on one of my units, I begin to salivate. It does basically no damage, but leaves them wide open to be flanked and massacred by a supporting gren or assault gren squad. |
Won my first match as the Ostheer versus American forces after a lengthy losing streak, hurrah. He had a mighty blob, but an MG42, a gren squad with a LMG, and a Flakpanzer IV held it at bay while a panzergrenadier squad and an assault grenadier squad moved in and cut them to ribbons.
Damn that felt good. |
I've found an MG42 in good position, supported by a grenadier squad with a LMG42 to be able to hold a decent sized US blob. I like to use the doctrine that have assault grenadiers and the StuG E variation. I blow the blob to pieces with a StuG E behind the machine gunners. |
