I've really tried using Ostruppen with this new patch and they definitely have some major weaknesses. They get swept away by conscripts, even in cover, and really have nothing to offer with regard to different tech options due to the panzerfaust requiring the T1 building.
Where I have seen some success/advantages in using them:
1: they do allow a strong early game presence if you skip T1 (but you do miss out on their fausts).
2: combined with the artillery commander's special ability a small blob of them can actually decimate conscripts and other soviet units, which can offer an unexpected surprise for a soviet player who has gotten used to pushing them around in the early game.
3: they are cheap to reinforce (16MP), so even with an expensive inital cost, they can save you money if you're careful to micro them.
4: they are excellent meat shields for p.grens in the mid to late.
Some thoughts to balance them:
1: Consider giving them fausts at vet2, or unlocking them with battle phase 1. (This will allow a player to skip T1 without penalty and try different build orders/tech strats)
2: Lower their reinforcement cost to 10MP (this reinforces their expendable nature, without having to reduce their initial cost, and makes them less of an MP sink)

Blitz can probably be reduced in price to it's original cost now that it's not a batmobile anymore. |
I agree, why do something like this?
In the end we dont know whetever those were intentional or not.
I think you answered your own question here. If we can gather a list of stealth changes, perhaps we can get some confirmations from the devs if the changes were intentional or accidental... like the AssGrens being 55mp to reinforce. |
I'm hoping we can get a list of stealth changes from the most recent patch going. This can also include possible bugs as well since we can't be sure what the intention behind a change was. I'll try to keep the list updated here after someone confirms.
1: Partisan Tank Hunters no longer have the survivability upgrade, while regular Partisans do (Irregulars never had it).
--pqumsieh gave a response to my question about this in another thread and said that they had intended to completely remove the survivability upgrade from both squads.
2: AssGrens now cost 55mp to reinforce.
--confirmed as a bug/mistake

Neither should have the upgrade. Thanks for finding this.
Glad I could help!
As an aside, has the upgrade been removed and partially/completely included in the unit stats, or is it just a nerf? It wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, so I'm curious what changed about these units. |
NOT Irregulars...
With the new patch, I noticed that Partisan Tank Hunters can no longer buy the upgrade which improves their survivability, while the regular Partisans still can.
So what happened here? Is this a bug, or did they remove the upgrade, or is the upgrade now included in the unit's cost? I use this commander a lot, so I know Partisan Tank Hunters had the upgrade available in the past. |
The "sit tight" part is harder to do day by day.
Don't know how others feel, but I'm not even hyped up by responses like these anymore(and I definitely was before).
I mean, its awesome you talk, but seeing the current balance and how long we have to put up with it?
Its rather discouraging.
They also seem to fail to recognize that summer is upon us. I'm here waiting on the patch and I'm watching the days get longer and warmer. If they take too long to deploy this patch, I may just lose interest and go outside and do something productive with my life... |
Yes, we know, just do less teasing and more patching so we will never have to see the balance in state which it is currently again.
Thanks for this. |
I completely support this idea. Remove lolram, and balance the tanks accordingly. T34/76 was superior to the the P4 when it hit the battlefields, but in it's current state, lolram is so unwieldy to balance that the tank is kept in a less than optimal state. Removal would open the tanks to being balanced properly.
It is unlikely, but I do believe it is the best move for Relic, if they want to balance the T34/76/85 properly. |
I agree that the campaign is stupid and boring. Maybe that's why Relic just decided to skip the campaign in Western Front. |
