Gebirgsjäger [Suggestion]

I think the Ostheer should have additional elite infantry options in the form of call-ins. Gebirgsjäger could be a good addition.
5 men x 4 Kar98s/ x 1 STG.
They would come with the camouflage and the ability to throw grenades as standard? Maybe a weapon upgrade too (Lmg 42 or G43s). In addition they won't suffer penalties for travelling through heavy snow and blizzards.
I think the ability to ignore heavy snow and move at full speed in blizzard would make the unit very useful. At the same time they can be used on summer maps as well.
Anyway it's just a suggestion. I have a soft spot for Gebirgsjäger's as you can probably see!

Actually I would like Gebirgsjagers... not as elite infantry, but rather as two-or three-man stealth squads at 0CP for 100-150mp. Low combat power, but good for recon/stealth capping (and maybe ambush fausting.
Thats a good idea, maybe they could garrison buildings and be invisible to the soviet player unless they also enter the buidling or perhaps have radio trianglation like in vcoh

I think they would need to offer something unique enough to be worth using, and so I would say jumping off from the no snow penalties (skies! snow shoes!), they could De-cap at double speed (capture at half rate). This could make them a raider that you get 1-2 of to harass the soviet map control with good micro.
My vision is:
320mp/1cp
4 man squad, 4 kar98k, 2xg43 available with that commander
smoke grenade, place det charge (like a pioneer), and camo by default
sprint? at vet1 (ski really fast damn it!) or healing kit
vet 2 = armor increase, vet 3 = dps increase
de-capture points at DOUBLE speed, capture at half speed

So basically you have a more expensive grenadier squad that can throw smoke, plant det charges like the soviet engineer, ignore snow, and camp for ambushes with camo balanced by the fact the unit 1) has no AT (hello mr t70) and 2) lacks an AI grenade.
Coming at 1cp I dont see this unit being a meta changing issue like t0 ostruppen spam or a replacement for grens, but rather a supplement as any specialist unit should be.
It could be a lot of fun running around someone's back territory and ambushing units or resources... sneaking a jaeger group around to sneak a det charge on a road during a blizzard and wait for a tank to roll by... BOOM

I would worry that they would end up as penals in the meta for the ostheer: look cool on paper but dont really have a purpose. If they are really good they could end up generating a new round of assgren whine, while if they are mediocre people wont bother using their commander.

That's a really good idea, and It stays somewhat true to my vision as well! I really like the idea of ambushing and moving through blizzards with ski's. They could act as an infiltration unit, imagine a sniper working in conjunction with the squad it would be great to see!
I think if the Gebirgsjäger were to be added though the Soviets would have to have another elite infantry unit as well. Maybe paratroopers or marines? I just hope that Relic release some free commanders next time, but I doubt it. Although any new addition to the game is a plus!

As I said, Relic would have to add additional elite Soviet infantry before they added Gebirgsjäger to balance the meta.
It's just a nice little idea I had floating around, but seeing the current meta game they would have to wait until the game is as balanced as can be. Then they could be added in an expansion if Relic like the idea. I mean who doesn't like new stuff to play with?

Still, I wonder if there will be anything left that would qualify as a standard Ostheer build, as all these kind of suggestions are yet another "additional unit" as part of an "additional general". Balancing even more generals would be virtually impossible, unless these call-ins provide no game changing abilities, which would make them redundant.
It is hard enough to make some of the current units work in the game, let alone figure out how to fit a new unit into any given playstyle.

Name-calling wont get you anywhere. And apart from that, I think a very static meta gets stale really fast (not saying there is a need to spam more and more units ingame). Although ever changing meta requires more balancing, I find it more fun to learn new counters and new strats than to do the same strat every game . This is really what keeps me playing after close to 450 games.
Still, there is a need for predictibility hence this thread: better use of loadingscreen

Armor: 1.25
Weapon: 3x G33/40 range 40, 1x G30/40 with scope, range 40.
Upgrades: MG34, range 40,
Abilitys: Sprint, deploy marksman, Mark infantry (similar to alpha vet 1 ability).
Passive: Resist cold, same LoS as snipers.
Role: Long range glass cannon, which is good at harrasing and kiting, thx to sprint. All their weapons would have a range of 40 compared to Kar98 and Mg42 range of 35, G30/40 with sligthly better long range dps then Kar98, and MG34 with much better long range dps then MG42, but with worse short range stats.

another constructive post by our good friend nullist! everyone give him a clap!
wouldn't this unit only be that useful in snow maps? in summer maps it should be switched out for fallschimjagers or perhaps another unit that have the same abilities, just have the winter related ones switched out for ones that would be more useful without the snow
