The 3570 and the 3770 are the same except for hyperthreading and slightly smaller cache. You probably wont notice the difference as both are excellent.
The K chips are unlocked and are for overclocking purposes and thats why they cost a $20 premium over the non K.

I know a friend of mine is disregarding all of my advice on the matter, and going for an AMD simply because a 4.0GHZ is $189.00, whereas an Intel would go for around $250-290

No really. SSD has improved the overall speed of my computer. I'm a happy owner!

at the same price, AMD usually does offer the better performance though... if you want top performance, get intel... if money is the issue and performance is not, you can get AMD as well.
I'll just go ahead and disagree with you. For gaming AMD doesnt compete with Intel at any price point.

that's alright... cause pretty much every benchmark agrees with me ;-)

AMD is cheaper than Intel cuz AMD cant compete performance wise.
Oh I miss the days when the Athlon XP reigned supreme.. the first computer i ever built had an Athlon XP 1700+ ( or was it 1800+..) because it was sooooo easy to overclock. First vid card I bought was the nv5200 ultra... All there was to argue about was whether or not the soyo dragon board was better than the epox one and if ddr 400 was worth the extra money over 333...
Those were the days!
E: and oh yea,
Starcraft 1
Morrowind
Homeworld
Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat
FTW!!!

uhhhh. Don't fight hardware with me son you'll just hurt yourself
AMD's latest and greatest FX8350 is priced at the same price point as a 3570K, and it still loses its ass to last years i5 2500K.
I too miss the old days of my Opteron 170 under watercooling pushing the limits, but those days are gone. AMD is in the shitter.

I never understood this AMD fanboy, Intel fanboy, Nvidea fanboy stuff. If i am searching for system components, i take whats best bang for the buck at that time, or not? I've had numerous systems containing AMD and Intel CPUs, as well as nvidia and ATI GPUs. I can't say any company has done me better than the other.
It has a lot to do with being young and strapped for cash when you built your first computer ( at least that was the case with me ) AMD came up with the Athlon XP line and became a savior for people who wanted high performance tweak-able PCs on a budget. Since almost everyone else around you is a fanboy of some kind and you (I) are too young (stupid) to know any better, its easy to form an attachment to what you have. Its the card you (I) were dealt (chose) so now you (I) might as well make the most of it, especially because you (I) want to look the better than everyone else for what you have.. bragging rights and all that stuff. After a while on computer cloud nine, young and stupid folk ( like I was ) will become zealously defensive of their chosen champion. The attachment is strong enough that many people will live in denial about it ( myself again ) for years after AMD started losing the war ( about the time intel released the core duo I believe ).
Eventually most people wake up to the truth.

you're partially right... but you are wrong on the most important point (at least for germany, no idea about the prices in the US, so this is solely based on german prices)...
even the FX-8350 is cheaper than both the 2500k and the 3570k... let alone the cost for the rest of the system which is (usually) also higher for intel systems (also, i feel like it's comparing apples to oranges, since the FX-8350 is not the "best bang for buck" in the AMD portfolio, imho).
there's a few other smaller things that i don't like about the benchmarks (the settings and game choice, for example), or about intels policy of intentionally making programs run slower than they should on systems without intel cpus (skip forward to page 132).
in summary: intel is evil (for deliberately making things run slow on stuff that isn't from them) and amd is incompetent (for not being able to come out with a good cpu since the first 64bit processors)... i don't know which is better/worse, that's why i am not a fanboy for either company :-P

I tried getting additional fans, mostly because the CPU spiked to 77+ degree Celsius when I played Rage.
When chassis fans are at their lowest and the cpu fan is at it's lowest, the computer makes a decent amount of noise.
The Cpu fan is the standard coming with the i5 2500K (not overclocked)
The chassis fans are one 80mm fan and a 120mm fan.
any ideas for a cheap solution?

Most likely your CPU cooler is the jet engine in your system. Never ever use a stock CPU fan. If you take a decent CPU cooler like for example the Scythe Mugen, it'll not cost you more than 30 bucks and the rounds per minute of the fan will never go above 1000, which you can barely hear. Temps will also stay at max 50-55°celsius under load, which ensures a longer life foryour system.
