Might it be weird? Yes.
That said, more variety is better. Almost always. Sure this will create some weird scenarios, but it will also require deeper understanding of the factions and some potentially interesting gamepplay (balance requiring).
So while it may not be "COH," it will not necessarily be bad, and might have the added bonus of increasing a player base that wants to focus on one race.
On that note, I've always thought that a German/Soviet/American, 3-race game (yes, ala Starcraft), is unfortunately the best fit, as it allows both variety and race focus. Sure, it's not "realistic," but the point here is to have the best gaming experience possible (with the secondary goal of a large player base). Why not give it a shot?

(while im pretty sure we can't talk about the alpha expierence.)
also from what ive seen so far do not like this idea i think it breaks immersion in a way makes company of heroes unique. however if done right could be a idea that addes to gameplay and make match maker easier to handle. but i still rather have 2 sides like in vcoh.
