I thought of rework by using three of his weapon slots
He no longer drops weapons and have 2 weapon upgrade choice
basic : 4 thompson, grenade, sachel, unlock tactical advance in vet 3
leading the way kit(70 muni) : add 1 M1919 LMG(can shoot while he is moving), unlock recon flight(50 muni), unlock rapid barrage in vet 3
Anti-tank kit(150 muni) : replace 4 thompson to 3 bazooka(dmg 100x3), unlock camo and first strike buff, unlock mark target in vet 1

and Ranger is more durable unit

There's nothing wrong with Rangers being a straightforward unit. Putting abilities on a unit just for the sake of it is an awful design philosophy.

You don't need a bunch of utility abilities to use a unit creatively. Flank. Hide around shot blockers. Advance under smoke from other units.

I mean I dont see how thats a bad thing. Considering USF has plenty of utility in its nondoc units a purely offensive unit like Rangers doesn't require tons of utility on itself. Also the commander Rangers are in have a smoke barrage.

The Ranger doesn't have any utility skill because it's a straightforward combat unit. It has solid stats and a grenade.
It's simple and it works well. Sometimes less is more.

Thompsons on the other hand have good DPS up to range 20, on top of having the highest close range DPS in the game (as a squad), so Rangers don't need anything else.

It's much better to use vet riflemans and build 50 cals than to use Ranger

The problem is someone in balance team was bored and decided to destroy the only standing out feature of rangers, damage reduction. It was completly unnecessary to touch rangers in the first place as they were fulfiling very important role in usf roster and were good at it (their high price was justified).
Now you can be sure that this great "rework" will bring some problems while previously rangers were in a good spot.
My idea for balance team:
Some forum user (nigo?) said there is unique ranger skin in game files. Take this unique skin, apply all these wonderful changes of yours to ranger squad, call it Urban Assault Rangers (or whatever) and add it to the new usf commander. Leave heavy cav ranger as they were.
