While Obersoldaten are walking slaughterhouses with vet and an MG34 upgrade, the same could not be said of its gun crew counterpart, which cannot suppress effectively, or instill fear into even Conscripts with Oorah and a firebomb.
Finally, you look in horror as a Penal/Shock combo calmly walks up to your MG, touches it with their pinky toe, and your MG team explodes in spectacular fashion.
What I suggest instead of permanently buffing suppression or damage, I suggest a Vet 0 perk that will *temporarily* increase the rate of fire to similar characteristics of an MG-42. It will share the same cooldown as AP rounds. This will allow OKW players with good micromanaging to Snare Conscripts/Shocks/Penals, and let Strumpioneers and Volk STG-44's to close in and cause either unit damage, or force a retreat.
This is somewhat based in reality as early MG-34's had a built in clockwork adjuster to increase rate of fire.
What do you guys think?

I made this when I was trying to get my head around the MGs. The stats are mostly taken from the DPS chart and looking at stats in the attrib editor.
I didn't include some important stats like burst DPS, AoE suppression, or vs cover bonuses.
So basically-
-The MG34 is like 95% as good as the MG42
-DShK would be best MG if not for its tiny cone of fire
-Maxim close range performance does not improve past 10m like the other MGs (visible on DPS chart, not my spreadsheet), so it's more vulnerable to frontal attacks.
And I think-
-The M2's damage and RoF mean it's very inconsistent. The damage and suppression per shot could be halved and the effective RoF doubled, like the DShK
-I recommend increasing the short-range performance of bad machine guns would make them harder to push from the front, without making them as able to lock down a wide area like the MG42/34.

Why?
Its as durable as any other HMG crew in game but soviets, but maxim is pile of steaming shit anyway.
Maybe it's 'cause the Axis players aren't a bunch of forum crybabies, and they keep their cool and fight the uphill battle, unlike some of their "allied" counterparts.

If i remember right, mg 34 has same suppression as mg 42 but has way worse damage and accuracy, however it becomes basically pseudo mg 42 with 4-5 vet

OKW doesn't need to have the best unit in every category, this is simply an unnecessary change. The MG34 doesn't need to be as good as the MG42, nor should it be. It's just meant to be a suppression platform for OKW, and in that purpose it works perfectly fine. The faction makes up for its "weakness" with its cheap and versatile and powerful infantry units.

OKW has a lot of problems, and the MG34 is in fact one of them, but I think tackling a lone unit would probably not be healthy for faction balance overall. OKW is currently the powerhouse of axis since OST is.... sad to say the least, but buffing something currently for OKW without major faction power changes on other units is probably a no go.

I would call 95% "basically the same". The fire rate is slower, but it does more suppression per shot. The main difference is the damage, which isn't very good.

The MG34 is hardly underperforming. It stops infantry. That's its job. It doesn't do it as quickly as the mg42 but it does do it. A single MG34 will stop an enemy squad, can the same be said about the maxim the vickers? What more do you want from it? It's got the amazing vet 1 rounds to boot.

The MG34's a pretty good example of a cheap MG done right. Does very little damage, but it suppresses, which is what you get an MG for.
Damage MGs like the Vickers don't do their job. The Vickers is good at killing models, but that's not what you want an MG for. It's like having a ZiS Gun for indirect.

MG34 is fine, IMO. It is incredibly cheap and it requires no side-teching, it does it's job of suppressing just fine -- it's not as fast as a 50 cal or a mg42, but it suppresses better than a maxim or a vickers.
Dunno, why fixate on a unit that I'd say is actually quite balanced.
