what is it you think makes the top players
Posts: 107
is it finding the winning build order?
is it a winner set of mind?
is it knowing the inner gears of the game? (dps / weapon modifiers / etc..)
is it finding a solution to a problem instead of winning about dis balance?
well you got the point, whats your opinion?

and about at least 4 days a week of gaming for about 6hours a day minimum?
I think top players learn from there losses rather than whining about them look at Sepha for example and what he did with coh1.

Look back at vCoH, a lot of the really good tournament players had maybe one high-ranking ladder account and just spammed customs against each other. You need more than ladder to be a successful player.

1) Practice
2) Micro and Macro skill (you can be a genius but if you can't move the units well enough you still lose)
3) Understanding the mechanics
4) Analysis of the stats behind each unit
If you know unit stats and income rates that is how you find optimal build orders. This isn't necessary to be good at the game because you can kinda feel your way to it but the best players will probably have some math behind their builds. If you know you can have units x,y and z by the 5 minute mark and the other faction can't have equalized dmg/health/units until the 5:30 mark you know you need to push your advantage at 5:00 minutes. What I just listed was a generic example but I would be very surprised if some of the top players didn't have builds down to that level by now.

Adaptability is king apparently trumping all else including game knowledge

All of the above.

2. able to multi-task (fight intense small skirmish, while not losing track of rest of the map and/or what you need to build next)
3. Experience (knowing map, units, when to fight when not to, etc.)
4. being pro-active (anticipate danger, create opportunities, act to force reactive response)
5. Have a clear strategy on what you want to achieve. From small skirmish to points you want to have to units you want to build. They all need to fit into grand plan. You don't go and attack red dot on mini-map just because its there and red.
6. Be calculating and ruthless at the same time. If you hold 2x VP, you don't need to attack 3rd one or try to destroy base. make opponent come to you, at the same time be able to see and jump onto opportunity
I have problems with 1 and 2, therefore I won't ever be wining SNF regardless of how many hours I play a day... or how well I know the maps and units

Certainly, as Inverse says, you have to play better players more frequently. I know from lots of experience sucking(and I still do, but I'm far better than I used to be) that you will pick up bad habits playing against other mediocre players, and things that you think work well won't translate at all at higher levels of play.
Pro Players also often watch the games they lose. A loss is much more informative than a win. Once I started disciplining myself into doing this, I started improving much more steadily. Its important to see a loss as some place you went wrong. Watching the replay is an attempt at pinpointing that. This used to be harder for me to do, but the more game knowledge you have from experience, the better you will get at this. Sometimes you will find that it was poor unit preservation, sometimes poor scouting or failure to press your advantage, sometimes, and this is more painful, your strategy leaves you vulnerable to cutoffs or certain units that you don't have an answer to, requiring you to make macro changes to your play-style.

If you don't know any good players, play automatch till you get one...If it's a loss, see if they will rematch you, or if you win, they will probably be game for a rematch.
Have to make buds, automatch IS ok, but it's mostly a waste of time as you won't hit top players much. And we all have limited game time (well most of us).

Buy as many P2W DLC commanders as you can.

indeed i noticed that every time i get a thing working for me when i move up in ranks it is not working anymore and i need to adapt, then i gain wins move up in ranks and get countered in a ways i never thought about, watch the replays, rethink restrat win and so on
what work on lower level fail on higher as it seems.
anyway currently i play mostly 2v2s with my buddy although i would happy to have some nice 1v1s with a good partner.
currently i am around lvl 1000 both faction you are invited to look me up on steam
