Armor value and Deflection damage

In think that for the next iteration of Coh, Relic really need to modify the Armor role for his game.
Tank Armor role should be more about damage reduction than damage countered. Coh2 has reached a point were TDs are the predominant tanks in game.

In my opinion, all issues related with the panther, tiger, IS-2 or King Tiger etc… is that their high armor value make them almost impossible to fight with regular medium tanks. So players simply don't build medium tanks and focus on tank destroyers.
When I play the game, I like building army of medium tanks Sherman, T34 or Pz4, but the simple fact that they can’t face the next level of tanks make them mostly useless past a certain time, they simply don’t cut it in late game. In opposition, medium tank destroyers such as SU-76, jpz4 or stugs keep their usefulness all the game long because they can still pen those big cats.

I think that if armor value was a chance to reduce damage instead of not getting damaged at all medium tanks would still have a place in late game. With that, the imperative need of massing pure tank destroyers would go down, relegated to their principal function, supporting from behind your medium tanks. They could go back to what they supposed to be, glass canon, helpless if rushed.

So any medium tank would always deal damage to biggest tank, the odds would simply decide if you get a “critical” hit that deal 100% damage or a defection damage ratio of the tank.
With this solution, all Tank Destroyers could be relegated to an expensive late game unit kind like the elefant, something that do pen other tank almost always but limited to one per player (Jackson, SU-85, FF, Panthers).
Medium tank destroyer could see their price and popcap increasing so they become less spammable (to jpz4 level for instance) so all the gameplay would evolve around tank play and not only tank destroyer play.

Agreed. Balancing would also be much easier than with the current binary "pen or no pen" mechanic.

A solution where all tank still damage higher tech vehicle will only lead to spamming of low tier vehicles since their will be little reason to tech higher.

If a t70 can damage a KT or a luch a IS-2 with every shot frontally there would little reason to built anything else.

One should probably lower the lethality of super heavy tanks but keep damage consisted while making TDs less effective especially vs lower tier units.

it's actually quite simple, add more hp/reduced damage like kv1 and nerf the armor of heavy tank , and nerf the pen of TD

Wut? do you really think massing T70 would counter a KT? Massing T34-76 yes since it is the purpose of that change but I don't expect T70 or Stuart doing more than today.

But to cut short this discussion, it is not about thinking what an actual T70 would do but how to modify any damage/armor relationship for any vehicle.

If armor only reduces damage then mass T-70 would work the same way mass PTRS works.

T-34/76 can still be very effective is they attack rear/side armor.

Another change is that is units should have cool-down after their being destroyed.

Thing with heavies is, they are jacks of all trades, excelling at everything, which means they require very hard counters against them.

KV-1, KV-2 or churchill variants are examples of well balanced heavy tanks, damage sponges, but they are not going to carry you through the game.

Even Pershing is in good shape in comparison as it got a very clear weakness of being squishy and expensive.

Tiger, KT and IS-2 do not have any weakness outside of infantry scatter and TD vulnerability.

Generalist heavies should not exist without any exploitable drawbacks and the most popular ones simply do not have them.
