How come they're so bad? They cost 390mp and 32 to reinforce but they struggle with vetted assgrens and volks at short range. Not saying they should be ubermenschen or anything, but when they close, wouldn't it make sense for them to at least kill something? Or at least a cost decrease to make them more like soviet troops (and cost eficient)?

I do not believe you. If their dps anything like partisans have they destroy everything close range.

They are very good at close range, very close range :D
But they cost to much, 330-360 would be enough.

Haven't seen Shocks for a while, actually. However, if I recalled correctly, Shocks' dps at close range is actually got out-match by Commandos and Rangers with Thompsons (Which got seen way more than Shocks), but since they cost more and only 5 man (4 for Infiltration Commandos), that kinda balance that out. But seriously, if I see Shocks, I would run! Like, Volks can fight them long-range but I would just better off running...‎

Shock Troopers are pretty amazing at closing distances.

Probably the only units that Shock Troopers aren't good at closing offensively against are Pgrens w/o schrecks and Assault grens. And even then it's only because those are the best units Ostheer has at close range.

But against grens? Schrecked Pgrens? Shocks are pretty solid in their role. Nevermind how they can handle MGs.

Although against OKW, Shocks are really kinda neutered now that Volks can get StGs. Those mid-to-close automatic weapon profiles mitigate a lot of Shocks cost effectiveness.

On a sniper/light vehicle meta, Shocks has no jobs. And the maps which are probably good, are instabans for Axis (due to Penals)

Giving Volks assault rifles also turned Shocks into a manpower grave against OKW.

Shocks are fine. They have counters to hmgs (smoke), can close in against any long range squad and instaforce it to retreat once they close in. They also wipe like mad when you flank with them and put them in retreat path.

They are underused because of how strong soviet guards, t70 and penals right now are so there is no need for another AI infantry.

they are not bad, they are only micro intensive. And ballanced. Which means guards are always going to be prefered unless they are nerfed into worthless. They need way less micro than shocks.

I mean, they aren't terrible (I made the thread after 2 solid wins with them), but it seems like other close-quarters infantry is way more cost-efficient, such as rangers or even thompson paras, and it just feels like their damage is kinda meh against infantry squads (many of whom had automatic weapons though). They are pretty useful against team weapons, especially since they have a smoke grenade, but again, it still feels like they get beat out by other close-quarters units.

Sorry but out of the three (paras, rangers and shocks) its shocks that see most use. Mostly becouse of how good riflemen are but also becouse of the fact that depending on the needs they can either be tough expensive, armoured shock infantry or cheap close range cannon fodder with lots of dps (with merge).

Is that true? I see Rangers somewhat common, especially with how common the Pershing doctrine is, Paras I never see because nobody really uses Airborne.

Thompson paras are the highest DPS infantry unit in the game when they're ontop of an enemy. Thompson rangers scale incredibly well. Shocks are really just meh. They don't scale amazingly and their DPS is only good if you're standing on your opponet. But also don't forget that you have to buy the thompsons on the USF infantry inorder for them to get that DPS. A large problem with shocks is that they really struggle to find a use when the Axis core infantry are all long ranged based. So automatically axis players veto most CQC maps and shocks charging through open ground will just bleed 1 or 2 models then the axis will retreat without dropping any. PPSH-41 accuracy drops off considerably faster than thompsons as well. They just end up bleeding you unless you can get a good flank off with them. The unit is arguably perfectly balanced they just have to be used in only certain scenarios. Much of which the axis will just veto to avoid.

You are mistaken. Armor = received accuracy if the AP value is 1. However, armor becomes less effective as soon as the AP value increases (AP rounds, .50cal, Flak, etc.)

And guess what, the majority of small arms weapon have penetration of 1.

In addition at point blank range vetted unit and/or on red cover most weapons have enough accuracy to have close to 100% chance to hit removing most protection from smaller target size, shock on the other hand with their armor still enjoin around 66% protection from it. (edited to make it more clear)

By struggle you mean they can safely walk up to them and do decent damage?

You are right when the total hit chance surpasses the value 1, which is very rare though.
Hit chance = (weapon accuracy*modifiers*received accuracy)

If you think hit chances in cqb are usually 1, you are mistaken.

Patch are not for shocks, but compared to rangers, paratropper, obers, shock looks like kids, better buff them (price or up DPS, i better will be spend amo to upgreid them with weapon, if weapon will be good), nowadays, build shocks = MP bleed.
