Children playing this game. Maybe you should write to parents then and ask them why the hell they are letting their children play this game that is rated M(17+) or 18+.

I think relic failed in understanding their first game title "company of heroes" (because old development team isnt there anymore). Normally heroes should give you positive feedback, by doing heroic stuff and fighting the bad/evil (ofc this is pure propaganda, but it works in entertaining you).
If you make a story and the main character is an anti hero, blaming himself for murder and stuff, you are not proud of and feel bad inside.

It`s like asking kids why they watch porn when it clearly states 18+ ....
There is no point in that, if the kid is half educated he will not believe a campaign of a game

I don't believe in the rating system by age, but he made it seem like little children who are still playing with toys and shit are playing this game and believing it. That whole argument of his was retarded to say the least.

If younare worried about childrens objective learning regarding WWII, I suggest youndirect your attention instead to the current deliberate whitewashing of Soviet history, as practiced under Putinist revisionism under the "One Russia" parties directorship.

Solidarity, patriotism etc are ofc of their own value, but not at the expense of objective learning regarding the horrors of war and the attoricities committed by any number of regimes during this period.

The equivalent would be German schools teaching that the Holocaust never happened.
Its appalling, and serves an overt political purpose, rather than a child objective learning.

story's great- the only issue is that every-man-and-his-dog have done a "being interrogated and levels play out as flashback's from the mc's pov"

don't you think this is done a lot?

When I say "children" - I reffer to 8-16 years old. And if some of them can take alchohol or drugs, why is this impossible to play a PC game without letting their parents to know?
Do you really think that 18 years restriction on Steam will stop them? :D
Some of these kids are educated, and know the difference between soviets and nazists, some of them are not educated enough.
And even if only one man from 100 (and I think that the number is much bigger) will think that soviets are mostly a monsters and zombies with couple of exceptions + they made a terrible dids as a common thing WITHOUT a reason (and we can't see any reason in this campaign) - isn't it a disinformation and fail already? Isn't it offensive to people who went through this war and are still alive? People who fought for their families, and was afraid and hated Stalin themselfs, but had no chance to survive if nazists win?
As I said, this is my subjective point of view, I don't know if it is right or wrong, and sorry if I offend someone.
Thanks

Some of the CoH2 players are residents of countries that were under the yoke of the Germans for about 5 years. They have relatives who were held in concentration/death camps, fought at the frontlines, were forced to work in German factories etc.

Still, these players have no problem playing Ostheer and enyoing the game, because they realize it is just a game.

Not trying to support OP's argument, but I just saw this article posted and thought it was worth sharing. The article does acknowledge both sides though.

Its only a game.
However its interesting to read how much soviet propaganda has messed around with people´s minds for decades. They are susceptible for it though, russia has a long story of ruthless dictators.

Excellent article. Lots of important sources and an objective and interesting editorial angle.

More than anything, I think negative reaction to the campaign highlights two issues which are larger and unrelated to the campaign itself:
1) The prevalence of Putinist historical revisionism whitewashing Soviet history as it is taught in Russia.
2) That people are increasingly incapable of differentiating movies, games and other ficticious content from actual sources.

Neither of these observstions reflects positively on critiques.

People need to understand that when games (or any other medium) claim to be accurate to their source material, they're not also claiming to be representative.

Really?

What do you think real life is? Puppies and rainbows I bet.

There's no such thing as heroes. And there's no such thing as villains. They're myths perpetrated by whoever wins. Everybody is a different shade of grey and this is what I feel the source material Relic took this from was trying to portray, and it translated extremely well into the game.

I can't believe you're complaining that a story is provoking an emotional reaction from you.

Er disagree. There are definitely heroes out there in the world. There are definitely villians out there in the world. Then there are those who fall into the "grey" category.

The attitude of Russians posting here on this forum like Paranoia for instance is appalling. As someone who is half Ukrainian Morgengrad, you should be well aware of the Holodomor - where perhaps between 20 - 30 million innocent Ukrainians were deliberately starved to death (can you even imagine how excruciating it would be to slowly die from a lack of food - completely unfathomable) by the Soviet Russian government as punishment for resisting Collectivisation, and yet you and the other Russians still push for an overly positive depiction of the Red Army and the Soviet Union that whitewashes the crimes that were committed by the Soviet Russian government. As I said, appalling.

But for me, the worst thing is no matter how Russophobic this game and the wider western media may or may not be, it will only ever be a fraction as severe as the Germanophobia that exists because of Nazism. The German people have made countless contributions to the advancement of humankind from the printing press to the Lunar Rocket and yet despite this they're all lumped in as these fascist, conformist, sterile people. Do you even mnow any Germans? I do, and I feel blessed to call these people my friends.
The Germans have spent the last 70 years making amends for Nazism even though only a minority of Germans ever supported them in the first place. They are made to bear sole guilt for the war despite the fact Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany were initially allies who invaded and occupied Poland TOGETHER. I was in a history museum in Bonn 2 days ago and every single explanatory text used the words 'Germany' or 'Germans' or the 'German people' as synonyms for Nazism. Even on the display dealing with Soviet Russian crimes and Stalin it explicitly said those crimes were committed by 'Stalin' as if he were somehow alone in the commission of these crimes 'in co-operation with Germany' (so they're even taking responsibility for the shit Soviet Russia did!)It was never 'the Nazis' or 'Hitler' (but you Russians always say, 'oh it was just Stalin' or '...Communism') Nowhere else would such collective responsibility be acceptable. 'All black people...', 'all Jews....' I rest my case.
To add insult to injury, the suffering of ordinary Germans as part of this process of assignment of collective guilt is written off as a righteous punishment for the crimes of Nazism. So for instance, the ethnic cleansing of millions of Germans from their homes by the Red Army is ignored or diminished as well as the crimes committed in the process, like when a 8 year old German girl got raped to death by a whole platoon of Red Army troops.

tl;dr/ The Russians cannot pretend as if the depiction of historical fact is somehow Russophobic, while refusing to engage with their collective responsibility for Soviet History. Especially when the Germans are continually vilified 70 years on for crimes committed at the behest of a minority of Germans and when the German nation is completely up front in the treatment of their past.
