Did usf not use mortels in ww2? Or why they dont use them in coh2?
Its fairly common knowledge that Relic experimented with adding a light mortar to USF during an Alpha test a while back. For whatever reason that was one of the changes that didn't make the cut. They probably didn't want to throw off people off too much by giving them an option to go something other than Rifle Rifle Rifle build order.

From a historical perspective, absolutely the USA used mortars in WW2. These were part of any normal infantry company and provided indirect fire on the move. In fact, mortars can drop more ordinance on target faster than even very large stationary artillery. They are only limited because of the small caliber of their rounds and limited effect against truly heavily armored targets. Band of Brothers does an excellent job of showing how mortars were used in conjunction with standard troop deployments.
They are not in COH2 because of design choices that attempt to limit USFs options against MGs to help the Wehr make it through the early game. Mortars would negate MG42s and Rifles already beat Grens so Wehr would get rolled quickly.

Welllllll, they could nerf Rifles a bit in combination to make it work, but nooooooo...
They probably didn't want to throw off people off too much by giving them an option to go something other than Rifle Rifle Rifle build order.

That's the M2 60mm mortar you're talking about that uses the GrW 34 model, surprisingly both the M1919A4 and the M2 60mm mortar do have models but no animations.
They were probably too lazy to make them and it would have been weird of using German mortars and calling them American so that's why they cut them.

This guy knows his stuff. They were the most accurate of all the factions when it came to artillery.
As for having mortars, it would make USF OP if they have both smoke, rifles AND mortars...

As I recall, there were mortars available to USF early upon their release, but got dropped.

Yeah how about that person try to play a balanced game then?
Pretty much every Army in CoH had all basic tools needed in some form or another, the Brits and PE were no exception to this, PE being a light vehicle based Army had an MG sort of Half-track while their mortar was mounted on a similar half-track, the Brits on the other hand had all out emplacements, but they all still had basic support weapons available to them in one way or another without this weirder "asymmetrical" bullshit gameplay people call it. I feel really weird right now as Brits having a mobile MG but not a mobile mortar, same goes for the OKW, having a doctrinal only MG and a pack howitzer as my only early-mid game indirect fire unit with no other forms of suppression until the arrival of the FlaK half-track which is under performing, at least to me, right now. It's just harder to balance and breaks more than it helps.
Not to mention that all Armies had options to go out of their own little ways, for example the American Army was made to be an aggressive and mobile force, but they could still hunker down with the Infantry Company, the British could become more mobile and aggressive with the Commando Regiment, the PE could also dig in a bit more with the Luftwaffe Doctrine and the Wehrmacht also 2 Aggressive doctrines providing powerful units and one very defensive one as well, my only complaint as the US was not having the M5 76mm gun as an AT emplacement like the British 17 pounder to be honest as far as the Infantry Company went, something which Europe at War greatly improved and expanded upon.

It was a joke, i do agree to some extent that all armies should have similiar tools available at all stages of the game.USF has Scott and Pack Howitzer. Yes, it's not a T1 asset, but if it was in any tier it would negate T3-T4 options. Why use any of the latter when you can spam mortars?
Personally I would replace any commander unlock with an M2 Mortar call-in....and of course, Relic actually fleshes out the model.

Because US mortars in coh1 were so op that nobody used them. That's why coh2 has none for the US.
Yeah, that's why we have the M1 81mm mortar here instead of the small range 60mm one which I also didn't like about the US but hey, at least it was mobile and faster to pack and unpack compared to the GrW 34. Also, the M1 81mm is a divisional level mortar unlike the M2 which is a platoon one so that may be the other reason for it.
