Asking this for a friend who is trying to learn how to play OKW. What is the current status of the Special Operations doctrine's infrared sturmgewehr package? A guide dating back to 2015 November stated that it was one of the best upgrades for small arms damage.

Its still quite good, but Ober come so late and cost intensive that almost everyone uses call in infantry instead. Like Scavanger or Breackthrough :o because you just bleed with them and their are not so price efficent like OPriflesOP Ultra Elite infantry or some other units so i would recomment to play these other full meta doctrins B-)

Its good for mid/close range engagements against units in cover cause it ignores the cover bonus. I like to combine 1 infrared ober with 1 lmg ober so the lmg can fire from the back while the infrared ober moves close. pretty deadly combination

It's pretty dope, especially if it still negates cover bonuses. I used it last time a few days ago in a 1v1, the cyborg obersoldaten squad raped everything and won me the game I think.

Vet 5 infrared obers are unstoppable.

If the enemy is going heavy on infantry, 2 or 3 squads of these will do wonders.

How do they work exactly? when I shoot at an enemy with them, they are always treated as in open ground? What about buildings? This game needs a kolaris advanced tooltip mod so badly. I don't use half the abilities cause I'm not sure what they do exactly or what's the DPS difference with certain upgrades. :(

IR StGs partly ignore the received accuracy bonus of cover.

Obers have -10% accuracy vs cover while other small arms have -50% accuracy.

Thus, they ignore 90% of yellow cover and like 45% of green cover.

Using them on urban maps where they can profit from close range immensely makes most sense to me. In such terrain it is also easier to flank HMGs which could stop their rampage by cleverly utilizing the Real Sight Feature to execute a nasty flank. Furthermore they are able to throw infiltration grenades to clear out buildings comfortably.

I still think the LMG is better because you are more prone to use them at a distance, thus make ober less susceptible to die.

And LMG does more damage all around, late game most cover is destroyed anyways.

Thats not really true, whilst lategame all the initial cover may be more or less destroyed, the ground is usually littered with craters giving yellow cover.
