Tanks have a tendency to sink into solid ground even if only a tiny bit is touching the ice.

I think the 'hitbox' of the ice or whatever needs changing to be smaller or not as close to the shoreline.
I don't like having to avoid going near the ice at all in fear of my tank being swallowed into the earth.
The tank should only sink if a majority of it is actually on the ice.

Here is an image for comparison.

Notice the size of the hole it "sank" through and the tracks on the snow showing that it was parked firmly on the ground.

Possibly not but I wouldn't mind an official reply to confirm.

It literally requires one single value change in tuning

"ice_kill_percentage": 0.2

would be the current value, ie. 20% of the unit ('s simbox, which is not quite the same as the graphic model you see. But close enough for most units) being over broken ice will make it sink.

Orrrrrr just get rid of maps with ice from automatch, like they did with deep snow and blizzards?

This is kind of a map issue. Depth of the water around shore makes this a bit hard to track.

Tanks also should not sink in shallow water. Or parts that are shallow in the summer versions of the maps. The small part north-west of the central VP in rzevh comes to mind.

Here is a fix:
-Don't stand on the ice. Like at all.

What is your thought process behind this? You decide that you are going to stand a little bit on the ice but not much?
"Just. A bit. More. Must. Skate. ARgggblrhrhrlrl"

I lost a tank to the ice during my first couple hundred hours of gameplay (maybe?), and never had an issue with the ice since then...

I would agree with this if tanks avoided ice by choice. Instead it ups micro tax on players to keep telling tanks to carefully skirt ice heavy areas. As a result, the player should be given some forgiveness if a bit of the tank slides onto the ice.

The current buffer at ice edges that make tanks sink is way less enjoyable gameplay wise than a buffer that wouldnt sink tanks

There's already water that's shallow enough to be traversed. Why that ice couldn't just convert into water, and impassable water depth into sinkable tanks, I don't know.
