Relic really needs to scrap the 0-100 3 Star EXP bar or send out a PSA about how matchmaking works.
That being said the matchmaking works more or less fine - if you beat something a lot higher than you than your rank goes up more. If you lose to a terrible scrub then it plummets. The end result is it more or less approximates your skill. 4vs4 is a lot harder to find 8 people of similar rank so you're going to see a wider range of skill across both teams but neither team is likely to be stacked one way or the other (Arranged Team vs. Non-AT notwithstanding). That has more to do with it than anything because the AT will be better coordinated.

Maybe it's 'cause the Axis players aren't a bunch of forum crybabies, and they keep their cool and fight the uphill battle, unlike some of their "allied" counterparts.

I have noticed that when I find a match quickly it is usually against people that are similar in rank/skill than me and matches are usually more even. On the contrary, if a match takes a long time to find, it is usually very imbalanced. I guess this is the match making trying to find similar players and then giving up?

Getting past those first ten matches, especially in team games, can be a bit of an ordeal. For the last year(ish) I have had a group of five people I typically play with and there's a few combinations of all of us that are still unranked. A few days ago we had 5 roflstomps in 45 minutes because of this.
Which was a bit frustrating, especially when we realized we were up against people who were probably playing their first matches of Automatch (or even CoH). If we'd known they were total nubs we would've(might've) at least adjusted and done, well, less meta.

Pretty much. It just expands over time, and at one point it includes "anyone" in the search.
Not like i haven't said it often enough in the past 2,5 years... hard cap limit / tiers / removal of a mode / whatever would be great. (my point: at least trying to fix it)

You're right. Those with the attitude of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" are in my opinion wrong in this case. I think despite their efforts, the number one problem remains; their just aren't enough people playing.

The mm always does this, it's better to find a game that's not balanced than to sit 30 minutes in the que waiting for a balanced match
i'd rather wait 30 mins than having a bad MM

I just wish there was some sort of rank decay. I started playing again last week after a near 3 year break, and I am getting completely wrecked every game and ranking down is a slow process if you don't just quit games after 5 minutes.

There is a rank decay, but its about as fast as the one of plastic.

I don't think there is. After 3 years of not playing, I still got the same rank as I had after 1 game of playing with each fa tion.
