Until that gets sorted anybody interested in using a temporary server to chat with, COHEXPERTS is providing their TeamSpeak free of charge, all with custom built sub-rooms, main rooms, rooms basically for anything you can think of, people are usually on the server most of the time, but we have many sub-channels specifically for coh2, coh1, and anything else, open 24/7, anyone is free to use them for team games/other, and anyone new is welcome to use it. Here are the server details, enjoy: 108.62.104.31:9980 108.62.104.31:9940

Since nobody used it, I didn't really set channels back up or anything when we migrated server few months ago.

We also never really promoted it, so it doesn't help its visibility indeed.

Hans (or anyone else actually) I could regive you admin if you want to use it again and manage it.

Could you do that?
We can promote it in streams and stuff, let's give it a second try :)

We as a community need to really start using the mumble sever for coh2.org as no-one is ever on it. Is this because most people don't use mumble? Maybe we need to change to TeamSpeak or Ventrillo instead. After all at the end of the Vancouver event we did agree to get together more often so let's do it!

Address info:

coh2.org

Mumble is shit. TS rules. And ventrilo is for people who are still stuck in the 90s. (No hate, but ventrilo UI is clunky, the program, albeit easy to set up, is very annoying and the sound quality is bad)

And yes, i've used every one of them.

Mumble was free to host on our server.

Would TS also be free to host on our server? Or would we have to pay for a license?

I think this is too valuable to keep getting lost in the Lobby.

I am moving it to Hardware and Tech, but if somebody spots a better place, please move it again, or let me know.

Unregistered you get up to 32 slots. But if you register on their site you get 512 slots. That is of course free of charge, you just have to register with like your email and stuff. Its intended for "Non-profit organizations" in the sense that you aren't making a profit from Teamspeak. It is specifically intended for "Large gaming clans/guilds, academic groups, community groups"

Then you could buy a license if you need more than 512 spots. But thats mainly intended for companies that host a Teamspeak server and rent out space on it. And 512 would probably suit Coh2.org for a while to come :)

Reading the ToS I see that CoH2.org would be ineligibly for a NPL licens.

Instead you would need to go for an Annual Activation Licens. Pricing is here

Mumble has some advantages all the same :
  • Open Source
  • Free Software (in every case)
  • Use the open format Opus (good quality with low bitrate)
  • Low-latency
  • Always encrypted communication
  • In-game Overlay
  • Positional-Audio (don't work with CoH 2)

Curious what the situation around this still is. I'd certainly be interested in bringing a few friends along too if this seems on the up and up.

The mumble server is up and will remain up. Use it as you see fit! I plan to use it to coordinate the OCF All-Star game on Sept. 19th.

Thx somenbjorn for the TS info. We'll consider it.

meeeh, its a UI change if anything to go from mumble to ts or vice-versa. Both software use OPUS and have more or less the same possibilities. TS is sometimes seen as the one with the more User-friendly UI, but difference between the two are cosmetic.
