5 men commando squad

Hi there,

I am not someone who thinks of something as overperforming quickly, but this pretty much hits the spot just about right.

These 5 men commando squads have insane dps, easily killing units on retreat, their grenade is absurd and the most annoying thing from all, they can run around invisible across the entire map. Running up to your units and throwing grenades whilst you don't even know they are there.

I have had occasions where they were literally standing next to my luchs and my luchs had to drive into them to spot them, or else they were invisible. I have had occasions where my Panzer IV was shooting at them from a meter or two away and they disappeared in front of it! I have had occasions where they simply came out of the glider, threw a grenade which killed a squad and raped an mg and a raketten werfer in about 5-10 seconds.

I have no problems with players using these: "don't hate the player babeh, hate the game". But this unit gives players the ability to change games in mere seconds, even when they themselves aren't potent enough to change a game around without this unit. Again this is not their fault, but Relic's.

My suggestion:

  • Reduce the cloaking effect so they can't become invisible right in front of a unit. Cloak now requires heavy cover for at least 2 seconds and can't be enabled when engaged in combat.

  • Remove the movement cloak, this is just plain broken.

  • Reduce damage from their grenade, so it doesn't reliably wipe units but still packs a punch.

  • Reduce dps from sten guns. Their DPS is through the roof, way to much damage.

Grenade damage and sten gun DPS should not be overnerfs, but rather gentle tweaks so the unit still remains a specialist, but doesn't wipe everything short of armor in the blink of an eye.

Any other suggestion, let me hear them below!

My suggestion is giving them 4 men if a player doesnt use the bolster squad size upgrade. And that would be it, your sugestions are way too harsh for such an expensive unit, nerfing every single stat a unit has is never a good idea.

That's a big overnerf man, I think they'd be fine with just a damage decrease. That is also the most likely tweak as it's the easiest for relic to implement

They cost less than Obersoldaten or Shock Troops, they're not expensive. They're extremely efficient for what they do. I agree with OP's assessment, it's similar to the suggestions laid out by Cruzz, and he generally has a good idea of what's going on in the game's files.

Yeah, that's something I forgot to add, they should be as expensive in vanguard as they are in commando commander, maybe like 50 manpower cheaper for the glider. Inconsistence in their cost makes them impossible to ballance.

You do realize that their dps will still be through the roof, they will still be able to become invisible to your units when they are engaging them and are a mere meter or two in front of them, and they can still run around invisible whilst throwing grenades that can wipe units without any hardship?

I think you have not seen the light with this unit yet, and I put that kindly.

You want them to run around the map invisible, throw grenades that wipe units without any effort and you want them to be able to become invisible right in front of your units, even when the commandos are engaged and a mere meter or two away from the units attacking them?

Well, gutted.

Personally I feel like they should be replaced in Vanguard with "Glider Infantry", which could be the Airborne equivalent to Tommies. Letting you build Commandos in Vanguard really strips away Commando Regiment's thunder, especially since they're much cheaper.

Do I need to play as brits in order to experience what they can and can't do? I think I nailed it pretty much spot on with what they can do.

In other words, you want the commandos to have those'special' abilities. Okee that is your opinion and wish, which you are entitled to most definitely :)

Just simply compare this unit with shocktroops,it's fucking too effective like many other brits units and abilities.

Both things are frankly pretty silly just in concept regardless of balance. Snipers have the cloak because they're made of glass encouraging keeping them out of reprisal range, they're not five guys who can regularly run into the fray. Satchel charges have a short-range and long fuse in compensation for their potential power. Those two traits are goofiness comparable to old Obers' MG34 being a sniper rifle that fired in automatic bursts.

It sounds to me like you were trying to spot a cloaked unit with vehicles. That's a bad idea Angrykitten, unless it's a dedicated spotter, like the Kubel or 222.

Use infantry to decloak them. They can only disappear if they have not been combat active for a time.

I like the cloak on them, they are an expensive elite cqb unit. CQB units typically under perform so the cloak is a nice way to balance that out.

I think reducing the DPS signifigantly is all that's necessary

Elite ones have largely been totally fine, Shock Troops have been the best the Soviets have to offer for a long time (aided by much of what else that they have on foot totally sucking for a long time as well, but still...) & Thompson Paras have been great since they got 4 Thompsons off the upgrade.
