I have a hard time realizing why you would pick tier 1 over tier 2 as soviets. Why do you use tier 1 over tier 2?

If you have Guards rifle commander, you can good damage with clowncars and snipers. You don't have to worry about light vehicles countering your stuff so your free to put pressure on the enemy, hopefully to rush out a quad or t70.

Soviet Tier 1 is excellent at anti-infantry.

Some players also like to use T1 against OKW since they don't have doctrinal vehicle snares so you can flamer clowncar more aggressively. Snipers are pretty brutal against Falshimjaeger happy players too since they are 4 model units that are expensive to reenforce. General consensus is penals are kinda meh, but on a very urban map I can see the benefits of more flamethrowers vs. garrisoned units. Back when Flak AA Traks were used more often I enjoyed using satchel charges to 1 shot them before they could pack up :P

I used to feel pretty locked out of real AT before the July patch when going T1, but now I know that, whenever I do, I can repel vehicles with soft AT and rush an SU-76.

If i were to use T1 there are 3 things i'd use them for,
1,clown cars with flame throws of course.

2,the sniper can be potent

3, when the enemy is dug in and i need some satchels

current patch basicaly to counter snipe enemy sniper and to have sniper in general. Other than that t2 is way better.
Sprice is always starting with a sniper both fractions but no one else doing it with sov.

I'll add clowncar with Guards. You can tackle down other light vehicles, from 222 up to unsupported Stugs.

The issue with this question is in what specific situation are you referring to. Meaning, T1 over T2 in 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s or overall. In team games I ALWAYS go T1, its amazin, penals rape infantry, snipers are awesome, scout car kill kubels scout and cap territory.

But you must go guards to have light AT

So you would use tier one any time you want to use units from tier one. got it :snfPeter:

Seriously though, I REALLY hope Penals get something on September 3rd. The Kappatch changes would be plenty.

As a 4v4 player:

- M3A1 is the most efficient way to deal with Kubel in early game
- M3A1 with flamer CEs inside have quite wide time window to deal with OKW infantry before first schrek hits the field (and with some skill and luck you can even set up wipe of schrekked squad on retreat)
- Snipers is the most painless way to deal with MG-42, especially with MG-42 spam strats
- Snipers are good tool to lure opponents into mid/close range combat where your infantry is efficient or into positions prepared with sandbags

Good vs OKW, but you'll probably want to build T2 later on for AT guns.

T1 is good if you intend on using it to grab an early advantage while getting to T2. its a good choice against OKW to really punish OKW players with an M3 and gain a huge advantage until a shreck appears

against wher use it as a mobile flanking taxi to get behind machine guns or to get penals up close.

Alone its terrible, and with no other infantry AT you have to get T2 regardless. I've watched to many games where lack of a zis killed the player

You get T1 to gain advantage early game and rush M5. You will rely on SU76/guards as AT. Its just a different strat.

VS OKW on forest maps with narrow paths. Asspio jumped from nearest bush leaves no chance for maxim, but penals feel fine with 'em... more or less...
