Some late-war T-34's actually had cages on them to deflect Panzerfaust and Panzerschrecks.
Just looks like double the ablative shielding to me.

It's still a pretty good solution vs RPGs.

The joke's about both the infantry and the cage armour being on it.

Seeing Soviet units able to ride on vet 1 T34's would also be amazing.

Like vet 0 rifles wear their helmets snugly, then at vet 1 they leave them unbuckled (a properly buckled helmet didn't absorb the impact of a bullet cause it was too tight), at vet 2 they put bayonets on their rifles, and at vet 3 they start sticking cards and cigarettes into their helmets.

I would love it if all units got visual changes at each level of vet.

lol the lag that relic would introduce with that would be spectacular

Protective screens didn't actually do very much but stop some shrapnel. They were essentially useless against panzerfausts.
And yet the same principle is still in use on modern armoured vehicles (example: Your text.. ). If you can detonate a HEAT warhead prematurely the effectiveness of it is greatly reduced.
German spaced armour skirts ("schürzen") were actually to protect against anti-tank rifle rounds striking vulnerable running gear components and thinner lower hull armour, but might have also hindered the effectiveness of American Bazookas.

The modern screens put on vehicles is by and far removed from the very crude and simple ones welded onto Soviet vehicles. The principle is the same but the execution and finesse is worlds apart.
