Not sure if I like where this is heading..
Maybe it's 'cause the Axis players aren't a bunch of forum crybabies, and they keep their cool and fight the uphill battle, unlike some of their "allied" counterparts.

Well....this could be a nice thing to see depending on HOW the currency is earned... or it could kill what is left of CoH2. Though this is an interesting turn of events.

so i am guessing something like decals would be similar to how skins in CS GO can get worn out. and they can be repaired with supplies?

But, but, they said they are working on the war spoils system months ago
If you ask about it, its under the NDA list. We will never hear about that again I guess..

This can actually work better than war spoils. Given that you accumulate points slowly by playing, then choosing what you wish to buy and unlock, rather than praying to RNG-lord that you will get that exact commander you need.

Oh god durability, what a terrible idea. This pretty much confirms the game is going to be free-to-play in the future though.
CSGO skins don't wear out, they just come with a wear level that never changes. Adding wear over time to normal items is a fucking horrendous idea.

I am intrigued, and not even worried. I am curious if they will completely garden it up, or maybe we will have a stroke of competence and actually wind up with an interesting model.

Durability for cosmetic items, i can live with that. But for commanders and bulletins it's a bad idea.
But the free to play model is a good idea as the game is not a top seller anymore as it would bring more people into the game. With F2P, in game leaderboard will be a must.

Best course of action right now would be to abandon coh2 entirely and start building coh3 from the scratch with all the neat features like obs mode available from the get go. Make it free to play for all I care, as long as things like faction design and commanders are better thought out. In my dreams I guess.

F2P could be big for CoH but it would be expensive to get it up and running also their balance NEEDS to be spot on or you will loose your new consumers.
That added Overhead map we saw a few months back that looks like a map from Hero's and Generals could be implemented with this. The war effort stuff could also be used to buy supply or directly related to "buy" in game items and bulletins. Fighting over certain regions of the map as well as certain days could give you bonuses to these currencys.
